Boring game? It was a terrible series. There was so little to like about both of those teams, the officials, and the administration. Even had we won, I'd have felt guilty at being happy because of the way we won. And here is some more italics just because.

And Chad's right. The rioting was almost a foregone conclusion. Opt2not - was it VPD handling crowd control or the RCMP?

P.S. - Hey, we want a world class city, we need world class civil commotion!

No...  I think that's an actual purse.  no "man" about it...

There are rumors that some Boston fans got beat up, and one of them was critically injured after being throw off an overpass.
:(
If that were true it would be all over the Boston media right now.  Probably all over Facebook too.  I don't see any of either.
Yeah, that rumour isn't true. The guy tried jumping from one side of a concourse to a sidewalk 12 meters (40 feet) below. My buddies at work here say that he was wearing a Boston jersey, but I see no report of that either.

There are also speculation that the people that started the riots were anarchists, and had premeditated plans. The first car that was flipped and set on fire was purposely driven there for that purpose.

OMG! Is that guy in the photo carrying a "man purse"?
Yeah. The looters hit The Bay were high-end purses and cosmetics were looted. It's funny 'cause I'm perusing CL right now and there are all these sale ads for Louis Vuitton purses that popped up yesterday and today.  hmmmm...

Wow...because the authorities would NEVER think to look on CL for hot items.  ::)  Rioters are so stupid.

Opt2not - was it VPD handling crowd control or the RCMP?

At first it was a weak VPD showing, then they called in the police from the surrounding cities, then eventually the RCMP.

Based on what happened in '94, I'm surprised everything wasn't out in full force to begin with!

I think they expected about 100,000, and the actual crowd was much larger. Plus there were several other events downtown that evening that drew their own crowds. Just lots of people in the area.

Liked the fact that thousands of volunteers showed up in Vancouver early this morning with garbage bags and began to help clean the streets of debris. Don't know if that's getting much coverage in the media, but that is more the Vancouver that I know.

That's a shame that isn't getting coverage, because it should. Next time we go up to the Pacific Northwest to visit my son, we're going to make a side trip to Vancouver.

Do they actually HAVE cities in New Zealand? I thought all of them are rather large sheep farmer villages.

Guess Vancouver does not want to be at nr 1 in the world liveability city index for 2012 again!

I rooted for the Canucks, but didn't really have anything in this game.
I didn't know anything about Vancouver and never thought to ask.

But looking at the riot photos, it looks like --cream-filled twinkie-- central.
Popped collars, platic 80's sunglasses, making --cream-filled twinkie-- poses with designer handbags while destroying property that other people worked for?
Was there some kind of mass migration from New Jersey that I missed?

A lot of those people are from the burbs. Surrey, Abbotsford, Burnaby...though, if you notice, most of these idiots are kids. I know alot of people from those areas and they're not twats.

Mind you, like every city, we've got our fair share of ---meecrob----bags, given the amount of money/expensive living there is here. Posers and ---meecrob----bags...
The real Vancouver isn't in the downtown core, dt is mostly filled with transplants from the suburbs or the interior, or elsewhere. Unfortunely the tourism is there as well, so people get the idea that Vancouver is like that. The real vancouverites live outside of dt, and the culture is very different.
I grew up in East Van, and still live here, and there is so much more to van-city than what downtown has to offer.

I don't know if that explains it properly, but it's the best I can do.
