Glad I came back here.
« on: March 14, 2010, 02:53:26 pm »
I have been spending most of my time on SRK since that is where my customer base is located.  However I have been thrown a curve by a customer and friend.  He wants to play the old classic arcade games on his PS3.  I heard that there should be some of these games available legally but I can't find any disks or PSN downloads.  Maybe my google-fu is lacking or maybe they don't exist.

Can someone help me find these games or be able to put an emulator like MAME on his PS3.

Thanks,
Michael

To run Mame on a PS3 you need to install yellow dog linux in the other OS section of the XBM. Which means you have a Fat PS3 as the option was removed from the slim version. Keep in mind when using linux on the PS3 you have sole use of the cell and 1/2 the available memory so basically mame and the other emus run terrible also you lose the use of all 8 SPU and the GPU.

So in other words not much of an option.  Darn   Found one PSN Download but only 6 games.  Not really worth it.

Thanks for the info.

I have a disk with Namco arcade games for the PS2 that I use with my PS3.  Your customer will need to have a backwards compatible PS3 though.

you can always get a regular xbox for like $20 from craigslist and softmod to run mame on it. works great. check thread in console section here.

I don't think you can put that on a PS3  ;)

Unless you physically set it on top of it.  lol

Have you ever seen a PS3?  The only things you can put on top of them are towels and blankets.

Or in my case, dust.

MAME runs ok on the PS3, but it was a bit of a headache for me to set up. This makes it a little bit easier - http://thezerogameproject.com/
