why does everyone have a big hard on for these demonoid invites. I get everything i happen to need without them and in a good speed too.
You've got two primary advantages to a 'private' torrent site. Whether you find these advantages useful or not will depend on your browsing preferences:
- Because every torrent upload is tied to an established username, there are fewer fake torrents on popular new media products. Load up a site like isotorrent and search for a recent movie. There will be dozens of fake torrents, virtual chaff distributed by companies to make the real torrents harder to find. On a private tracker, those usernames can be banned, and since it's a sponsor-system most of the time, the sponsors can get banned, too.
- Because each download is tied to a username, upload/download ratios can be enforced. This is mostly useful for really obscure stuff that only one person is seeding, and helps make sure that people don't immediately disconnect when they hit 100%.
Basically, there's very few advantages for most torrents. It's only on the most popular and least popular extremes that it becomes fairly useful.
