What buttons are needed in a light gun?
« on: March 05, 2010, 05:58:20 pm »
I am putting a couple aimtracks in guncon shells, and I am not sure what buttons are actually needed. I have only tested Area 51 so far, but it doesn't require anything but a trigger. The guncons have 2 buttons, but at the moment I can't think of anything that would need two. If there is no need for more than one, I think I will just double them so the one button is easy to access for lefties and righties. Have any of you found a need for more than 1? I can just wire up two and map them both to the same button, but I guess I am just getting a little lazy in my old age. :)

I can't name any off the top of my head, but some games will need two. Or maybe you are referring to two besides the trigger? In some games you will need the trigger, and a grenade/special weapon button. On others you may need a reload button, not sure.

But I have found that when playing a couple of feet back, it would be nice to have a coin button and maybe even a 1P/2P button on the gun, so you don't need to walk up and add coins or press continue.

But you can also program the AimTrak to have different functionality for on-screen and off-screen. So maybe one button when fired on-screen could be add coin, and off screen could be 1P start. Just a thought.
