Nice...I assume you'll be bringing yours for me to demo at CP's.

Side note: I took the family to the AB brewery tour saturday (don't forget my nomination for father of the year). Michelob Golden Light on draught was pretty out-effing-standing with pretzels.

Did any AB employees pretending to be tourists come up and ask you what you thought of it?

That happened to me twice on those tours.  Also loved the observation deck that they had overlooking the tasting area.

Tasted some weird dumb stuff on those tours... remember Spykes?  Supposed to make your beer more intense?  1oz shots of fruit flavored stuff to pour into your Bud Light... and a whopping 'get around the blue laws' 12% alcohol content.

Give me a break.  At least they served the 'real' Bud Select on those tours.  Too bad you can't buy it anymore.

No, but an interesting side note: A couple of X-Mases ago, I was at the local Sams Club and I grabbed a case of Miller Lite Bottles. Some random lady asked me why I drink that crap. I said, "Excuse me?" She then told me she worked for AB and if  put that case back, she would buy me a case of any AB product I wanted. Hey, Bud Select ain't bad in a pinch, and free is free.

YOu guys need to try Dogfish Head.  Made locally down this way in Delaware and a pretty good brew...  If you like IPA's that is.

Dogfishhead is great, I frequently get their beers.  But...honestly...if they are debating on getting Miller-anything vs. Bud-anything...they won't like it.  I mean, hell, it tastes like...BEER.  Who'd have thought.

Friends don't let friends drink  s****y beer.

Regarding the FP - a few bars have had these available to order beer from for awhile around here (MD/DC area).  Biggest issue is the beer getting warm pretty quick - and the fact that they generally don't cost less then ordering the equivalent volume in pints.  Since breweries or places that are beer focused (i.e. have a good selection) generally have them, we normally just get pints so we can try different things.

I dont think thats true at all.

You are mixing your goals with other peoples goals, just because they use the same means.  I love good tasting beer, micros, and unaltered imports.  But sometimes I drink beer as a water substitute, and for that, I dont really care if its great beer, I want it so cold it would be a waste to drink a good beer like that, or in quantities that quality does not matter.

Miller and Bud have their place, and if you have a preference between the two, or a use for either of them, does not preclude you from liking good beer as well.

Sometimes Ill eat Whataburger cause it fits my needs, that doesnt mean I like it better than, or cant tell the difference between it and a good home made burger (or Twisted Root), even though I prefer it over McDonalds or Burger King.

beer connoisseurs are an odd bunch (IMHO) , and theres no pleasing them. Im not much of a beer drinker, but when I do drink beer I prefer a dos equis. stay thirsty my friends.

just kidding, I really dont drink much beer, but I know what I like. theres nothing wrong with a budweiser, or a miller lite and just because you drink those doesnt mean you have to exclude yourself from landshark, doghead, corona, sam adams, New Castle, etc, etc drink what you like, FTW  well, except Natty Ice, thats some cheap ass beer

hehe...  I hear ya...  I tend to flock towards the IPA's mostly like when we are out to eat, but at home or anytime I just want to drink and hangout for a while...  Miller Lite or Natty Lite is the way to go...  I mean you can throw down 12 nattys in a sitting, but if you did that with the 90 min IPA... Sheewww...    I never met a beer I didnt like.  :-)

Speaking of Dogfish:
At the C-store where I work, I caught a "minor" glitch in the register earlier today. When I rang in Dogfish IPA 60 minute (4 pack) it rang in as $0.00. It has prolly been this way for a few months.

Too bad I had to go and fix it, huh? Now it is properly priced at $9.69 for a 4 pack.   :D

Blue Moon = Awesome but I would certainly not call it cheap unless you are buying it buy the barrel  8).  Then its only "cheaper".  This stuff sells for about $1.25 per bottle in grocery stores.  FYI:  Blue Moon has some other brews now like Full Moon (winter ale) and Rising Moon (Spring Ale) which are also pretty good.

PBJ, you and I are in agreement here, while Shlafly is good beer, the taste seems to vary in bottles.  Thats why you should just stick with draft.  All beer taste better in draft form anyway.

Unfortunately, that stuff was hard to find on tap anywhere.

Where in God's name were you drinking?  Shlafly's is on tap everywhere in STL.

This reminds me of a good college friend who raved about this beer nonstop.  Unfortunately he's dead now.  Wherever he is I hope he's drinking his fill!

Why drink beer when you could have an Amaretto Sour, or a Margarita, or any kick butt mixed beverage.

Beer is as varied a drink as there is out there.  To say that you don't like it, probably more means you don't want to like it, which is fine, you can have your opinion.  But the difference between a Chimay Blue, a Miller Light, a Shiner Bock, a Murphys Stout, a Full Moon, a New Belgium Trippel, and a whatever Saint said is enormous.

Unless you fundamentally disagree with alcohol, I find it nearly impossible that there is not a beer out there anyone could enjoy.  If you just aren't interested in finding it, more power to you, more beer for the rest of us to drink.

I think the first line of the Beer Wikipedia entry says it all:

Quote
Beer is the world's oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea.

The only way I'd like beer is if it doesn't taste like beer. Having said that, I would try it. The last two I tried:

Some microbrew out of Morgantown WV. It tasted like ridiculously strong and burned tea, with a hint of dirt.

Blue Moon. Not incredibly bad, but still tasted like beer. Wouldn't say I enjoyed it. Drank two perfect margarita's instead. One of the highlights of staying at my bro-in-law's house is that he is a big margarita fan, and will mix them up when we play cards. That tequila can get you buzzing pretty good.

I guess I could try that Wicked Ale stuff. If the conniseurs are knocking it, then it has to be good!

You know, I'll admit it.  I used to love those Smirnoff Ice's in all the girly flavors.  One weekend, I got some 12 pack of a variety of flavors and proceeded to plow my way through it.

On #5, I go, you know, how many calories are in these things?

250!  Each!  And they're 4%!

 :'(

You put on a pound or two that weekend, eh?  96 calories in a Miller Lite...I could drink 36 before gaining a pound. I know of at least 2 occasions I gained a pound...back in the day. Just think how fat I'd be if I drank leaded instead of unleaded.

Typically, a shot = glass of wine = light beer in calories.

A mixed drink typically = a fuller beer (or worse, depending on what you are mixing in).

Those malted beverage sweeter beers like Smirnoff may be worse off, I dont know.  But I know theres not a ton of calorie savings to be had drinking liquor instead, especially if you are mixing it with something besides carbonated water or diet soda.

It's ~80 calories per ounce of ethanol.  Light rum and vodka are your best bets for avoiding additional calories.

Beer generally tacks on another 20-40 calories (one can has an ounce of ethanol in it), wine about the same but trends a little worse.

I've done far too much research on the topic.   :P

Well part of the point is that no one drinks an ounce of any liquor, a typical shot is much closer to an ounce and a half (I think officially its 1.4 oz?  I dunno). A friendly or loose bartender will lean more towards a 2oz pour.  And a mixed drink is far worse.

If you take your 80 calories and guess that your shot is just a small one at 1.2 oz, thats 96 calories already, which equals whats reported on the label of a Miller Lite.  Have your vodka in cranberry, tonic water, or 7-up (non-diet) and your Miller Lite is easily less calories per serving.

Beer (in bottles or cans anyway) is at least a much more measured way to observe your caloric intake, if thats what you are concerned with.  Or if you really want to torture yourself, go with the MGD 64, the beer that tastes like what I imagine my own piss tastes like after a night of drinking real beer.

If I miss hard liquor and pop, I get instant heartburn and gas lock that makes me fell like I am dying.

Those Mike's Hard Cola things do the same.

If you can control the pours, the best ethanol bang for buck is vodka/rum as stated before.   :P

Im just not seeing the math, heres what Im looking at, please correct if Im wrong.

80 proof vodka at 1 oz = 0.4 oz alcohol, 80 Calories = 200 calories per ounce alcohol
Miller Lite, 4.2% at 12 oz = 0.502 oz alcohol, 96 calories = 191 calories per ounce alcohol

Which makes the Lite beer slightly better, if you believe the label.  But essentially they are pretty much equal, as stated before   :P

Typically I quit caring about calories after 5 or 6.

For those of you crunching numbers, are you saying that the vodka is drank straight? Or are you including the pop in the numbers?

Straight, or with diet (zero calorie) soda, water, or the like.

So, maybe more applicable to Scotch.  Although, I made a badass Jalapeno infused Tito's Vodka a few years ago, with Jalapenos from my garden.  Just dropped em in whole and halved and let it sit for about a week.  That stuff was crazy good (and likewise, dangerous).  I would just sip it from a shot glass at room temperature.  The fire from the alcohol and the fire from the pepper were great together.

I did some pepper and ginger root once.  It was terrible.  The only way I could get rid of it was to tell people, "if you don't do a shot, you have to leave" after they were 3 sheets to the wind.

Well done PBJ, that's the way to pawn off some rot gut swill. I'm really enjoying this thread.

We're going to acknowledge the second one? Might as well count the third one then. Was that supposed to be uplifting? Get your a$s kicked through the entire movie and then in the tournament, get sucker punched a bunch of times, then land one punch and everything is ok. Now that I think about it, that's how all of those movies went.

Speaking of overdone sequels, I watched the newest Rambo the other night on Showtime HD. I gotta give it props. If you're into violence and war movies, and if you're watching Rambo, you'd better be, it was badasstry. Rambo didn't screw around and get captured and tortured like he usually does. He just shot people with arrows, hacked them with a bigass home made knife, and mowed down an entire army with a big mounted machine gun.

Back to the original topic...sort of, I picked up a 6er of Michelob Golden Light last night on the way home. t comes in a clear bottle and the label looks too much like Natty Light. Once again, nice taste, but a water aftertaste. I guess if you are pounding them, that would make this beer perfect. But, I'll probably stick with my Miller.

I really enjoyed the second one as a kid. It does not hold up well at all, but I begrudingly gave it a pass for the good memories from childhood.
Part 1 held up AMAZINGLY well. Still an overall great movie.

Part 3...wow. It gets even worse when you read some notes on the internet about the production. It was a 100% joke from top to bottom.

Listen to this @ the 8:25 point to hear the best 9 second summary of Karate kid ever.

Also you will hear pinball for about 45 seconds prior if you want to.

Seriously, go to at least 8:25
