  • I want my own arcade controls!
I'm in to process of finishing my rec room.  Right now it's just concrete and roughed in.  Getting the electrical done soon and would like to do whatever I need in advance to run a wall mounted flatscreen juke box.  I haven't built the JukeBox yet, but have seen others built on this site and am thinking of something very thin that is mounted on the wall.

So the question of the hour is what kind of wiring should I install before I have the ceilings and drywall installed to make this easier once I build the Jukebox? Do I just need AV cables running from my area of install to the AV receiver in the room?  Also thinking I'll need a 12volt plugin box for the PC that will be in the storage room behind the wall I'll be mounting the JukeBoxScreen.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Why do you need a 12volt plugin box for your PC? Seems like you would just need regular 110 for the PC and screen. If the PC is mounted in a room behind where you are mounting the LCD then you will need a VGA, USB and power cable long enough to reach the PC. also why not just put all your audio equipment in that room as well, then all you need to run is speaker cable from the storage room to the speaker locations. You could then control the amp with an IR repeater. Pics or a layout of the room would help folks giving advice.

Always run in cat5 for networking even if you do not plan to use it.   It is cheap and very useful if  you need it later.

If the PC is not close by, be sure to run a wire to connect a power button. I just completed my in-wall jukebox and mounted an arcade push button in the frame to the PC on and off remotely. My PC is on top of a built in cabinet unit that is completely out of site but also about 7 feet off the ground. I wanted to be sure I could power the juke on and off without having to use a remote control or some other way to reach the PC. I wired the button in with the PC case power button and then mounted the switch inset with the frame around the touch screen monitor. It looks great and works perfect. Just don't forget any of the wires you need. I needed power to the monitor, the usb cable to the monitor and the RGB monitor cable. I had to get 20' versions of each to run up in the wall into the attic and then back into the room behind the cabinet.

Run conduit. Whatever else you run, run conduit with a pull string. Sooner or later a need will arise that you hadn't planned for. With conduit to the right location you can fix that, without it's a serious pain.
