The first two pictures look like a stand-up cabinet to me, but the last picture looks like a much shorter one...  ???

Other than that, it looks like good progress so far.

edit: maybe it's just so large that it appears to me as being shorter when viewed from the front?

looks like you will either have to be small or sit down to me.

or else you could play with your arms at full length.

Looking good  :)

It's definitely Candyesque. It reminds me of the Astro City 2.

What controls are you going for? Hopefully something Jap to go with the cab.

Thanks, for controls i ordered Sanwa JLFs  and Sanwa buttons, also 2 Seimitsu 24mm buttons because i really liked the way they looked.  Undecided on the bubble tops tho. i got them really just to see what they looked like in person.  I think they look  pretty cool even though it doesn't match my buttons or seem too arcade authentic, but neither does the shape of my cab so it's all good.

just a picture of everything.
[/quote]

Great choice on the JLF's , I recently installed a pair on my cab and still trying to get used to them.

About the "they dont seem too arcade authentic" statement..... they are arcade parts made by an arcade parts company......

well if i had a wife and kids and the kids went and mashed my things up,i think i would know who i would be talking to and who would be grounded like for a month at least.

be suprised how much spending money kids get these days, their spending money will buy you lots of new wood and other materials.

dont give up and soldier on and lets see what you can make good of a bad situation.

the table saw i use always seems to be 1/8th inch off or so.

I had the same issue and now just compensate by measure from the edge of the blade. Then I pencil on actual measurement used and if I need to repeat I just use that as a reference, set and cut.

Looking good!

Hey blackwatchplad, you're cab looks sweeeeeeet.  Looks like an Astro City 2 and a Vewlix had a baby! ;)

Good to hear you got the dents and nails out of it.  I think your cab is about my cabs dimensions, awesome thing about it is, I can either play it standing or sitting down!

What kind of colour scheme are you going with?

Also, my cab has no external USB Ports, i just run an 8 port USB Hub mounted on the back of my doors, that feeds through a C grommet, which lets out whichever controllers at the time.  They all hang up inside the actuall cabinet :)

Keep up the excellent work mate!

Not sure if it's just me or what but the joysticks look pretty close to the buttons.  I used the astro city templates from Slagcoin. It's been ages since i've been in front of an actual arcade machine (well, more like a year or two if u want to ball park it.)
Maybe it's just my eyes playing tricks on me.

The button/joystick placement is right perfect. As you sit down when you play, you'll find that your arms are quite relaxed in that position. To get even more comfortable, may I suggest you try to remove the hard edge towards the players on your control box? Something more slanted is nice for longer gaming sessions.

I worked on the CP and the marquee area.. goofed up on the marquee area so i will make a new one.. no big deal.  One step forward and two steps back eh?

I attempted to top mount sanwas to my CP .

The routing is laughable at best but it holds the joysticks snug in place and it will be cover by artwork and plexi, so all is well.

Also, i'm debating on using .25" plexi to put over the art work (and attach buttons too) or whether or not to use something thinner.  I plan on routing a huge recess for the plexi to sit in so everything should be close to flush.  So it's either use .25" plexi that i already have or go buy a thinner sheet.  I think the .25" plexi would be pretty sturdy and hey, it doesn't cost me anything.. but also have to consider stick height will suffer to a degree. I think i'll try the .25" first and if it doesn't work out just make a new panel.

That's what everything looks like as of right now.

Wow thats looking awesome Blackie, don't worry about the routing mate, you should see the pathetic cuts i made for my control panel lol.  Its all covered in the end and give you more time on the more important stuff!

Eyeballing my Astro control panel, compared to your cuts looks spot on really so I wouldn't worry about that.  I think your eye is getting drawn to the base plate of the joystick rather than the shaft.

Keep up the sweet work man, already looking better than mine  heheh.

You started in August and are complaining that it's taken too long, and you've gotten it here?

Damn, you make me look like a tortoise in molasses  ;)

I'm going on 2.5 years now for this one cabinet. Though it +did+ become playable about a month or so back, So, at least there's that!

That's looking like a nice cab

yeah this is a sexy looking project for sure. Making me want to build a 2nd candy cab for sure.

Still gotta finish my vewlix. Which I will start working on again this coming week. (got it into my apartment and out of my dads hazardous garage).

Can't wait to see this bad-boy finished.
