AdvancedHELP!.

i was just wondering, i use advancemame and think its the easily the best version of mame if your not bothered about the newist games, but what is really the best way to set it up?, its great that there is so much choice within the advance programs but its hard to know exactly the best way to run it, (the most authentic).

im getting good results setting it up in lots of different ways, is it better to use the auto mode ? and generate options instead of using all your own modelines?, i know it depends on what monitor your using, when im messing with modelines its not allways ultra smooth,i try to keep it to 15.75 horizontal  60 vert if possible.

maybe it would be a good thing to post a list of .rc files for people to try , i still see lots of people asking for help with advancemame :cheers:

i prefer "display_mode generate-scanline" if possible, otherwise "auto". how do you use your own modelines? i'm using a pc monitor.

attached is my advmame.rc file. it has a script to automatically insert a coin.

I have about 4 different hard drives with different setups for advancemame,
i keep trying out differnt modes :auto /x/clock/  and different drivers /vbeline/vgaline/svgaline
do you use advancemame under dos or something else?, the modelines on this rc-file  are not setup that well,just copied the one im using for testing , ive got a microvitec multisync for testing and also a matrox g400 or diamond viper 770(nvidia tnt2 type) gfx card,,i'll post some other .rc files L8r.

I wonder if its good to use things like scitech display doc or Vbe to get more screen modes?,i'll try out that display mode you use, thanks for the autocoin script, i'll insert that in mine!

i'm using advmame .106 and .92.1 dos versions. can you please enlighten me on these:

modes : auto /x/clock/
drivers : vbeline/vgaline/svgaline

i have read the manual and the modeline tutorial but i still don't understand the benefit of one over the other.

The difference with svgaline/vgaline is just the driver, if your card does not work that well then use vgaline instead, i cant see any differences myself unless i use the vesa3 mode which gives worse results for me.

using (x) gives me more screen rez to swap between in the video menu, (clock) never seems to give me smooth updates.

someone said that its best to use advancemame without setting modelines at all and using the generate option, but i have not had that good results doing it this way - yet!

yeah advancemame has lots of options , thats whats so good and bad about it,
this is another setup im using for advancemame , again for verticle monitor.im using the mode generate_exact with all available modelines( it doesent work with my gfx card unless i select the modelines for it to play with, had to cut it down to fit forum limit ).this is my fave way to set it up - select generate_exact and select every mode possible with advv, make sure you have your monitor pclock /hclock/v clock etc in first!.

Has anyone got the generate_exact to work without setting modelines up ?, also does anyone know how to disable the screen mode selection from the video menu , i did this before but cant remember i think it said ' generate-* '.
