£50 Xboxes and 4 games
« on: November 28, 2006, 04:30:55 pm »
Last day Weds 29th November to snag an awesome deal at www.argos.co.uk

Four games including Halo2 and Gotham Racing and a brand spanking new Xbox.   :o

I couldn't believe it, but its true as you have to include it in the shopping basket online.

Looks like a liquidation sale of the original Xboxes.

Doesn't seem to be a per household deal either  ;D

Wish I knew last week.....

I'm reading it as £50 just for an XBox and £80 for an XBox with four games.

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5671867/Trail/C%24cip%3D42746.Video%2Bgames.htm

It's still a good deal but not a must buy.

Also, it appears the offer's been extended to 24th December. Hmmm shall I bite.

Yes you have to add the £50 xbox and add the £80xbox-with-games to your shopping trolley, and the total is £50.

Pretty good deal - I notice on ebay UK there are loads of people selling "brand new sealed xbox" with these games.

Not sure wether to bite either - never had an xbox, but tempted just to make it a media centre....

Wow, I've just re-read the advert and you're right the 4 games are included in the £50. That compares very favourably with Ebay prices.

The question is are the games any good? I'm pretty clueless when it comes to XBox games.

In a way it doesn't really matter because If I bought an XBox it would be mainly so I could play classic games under MAME. I've already got plenty of modern games for my PC and Dreamcast. Any modern XBox games included in the package would simply be a bonus.

Also I'd like to use it as a DVD player but I've heard that you have to buy a separate DVD remote to gain this facility. If there a mod that can be done to play DVDs without the remote?

Yep now its £89.99 which is a bit sad, as I'm kicking myself for not acting yesterday and snagging one

But as a small consolation you can still get the games free if you add the two together in the online basket.

yeh but you can get xbox+games+controllers+dvdremote for £90ish on ebay (2nd hand).

Brand new xbox+1controller+4goodgames for £50 was very good.

I tried hard to get one yesterday, but no home delivery and none of around 15 London stores had them in stock to reserve.

Anyway, I picked up a cheapo one off ebay. I never wanted the games to play as I want to mod it to a emu/video server, but those games were very sellable. Ah well.

Oh no and I had one on reserve here in the north west.   :o

I heard on the grapevine that they might drop them again before Christmas so it would be a good idea to keep an eye out.

Incidentially most pawn shops and 2nd hand game shops still sell the 2nd user PS2s and Xboxes for £59.99.

Still cheap for a media centre possibility.

If you reserved it at £50 I believe they should honour the price if its on the system.

Unfortunately, they make it clear on their site that it's the price on the day you pay that counts not the price on the day you make the reservation. I agree it's unfair but that is Argos' rule.
