Title: Correct settings in mame.ini for AVGA card
Post by: sega_mad on November 11, 2008, 03:20:29 pm
Hi, I'm running 2 versions of Mame. 102 & 114. I've set up 102 correctly as per the ultimarc website, but 114 doesn't have the same setting as 102, ie I can't put a 1 against direct draw. Would really appreciate some help on this one to get the full benefit of the AVGA card.

Thanks in advance :D

I don't use version 114, but I believe you just replace the d3d with ddraw under video in your mame ini to achieve what you're looking for.

Thanks for the reply, that's what I did last time, and some games (street fighter, but not all versions) went out of vertical sync.

Will give it another go.

Cheers

Ok, did that, but games like 1941 and 19XX (this is far as I've tested, I'm sure there are more) are not "syncing" up. I looked in the ini file and the res was 512 x 288.....seems a little out...any thoughts?

Thanks

1941 is a vertical game, and your monitor most likely is horizontal oriented, so the resolution won't match.

I don't have an AVGA card, but for vertical games, you may want to just set your resolution to 640x480 or 800x600 (if possible).

I'm running the monitor vertically, so all resolutions are correct. Spoke to Andy (from Ultimarc), and just tweaked the res in the INI file for each game that was playing up, and now she's all good.

Thanks for the help

Thanks, have it sorted now.

From what I can gather, if you are running the res at 640 X 480, then there is no point in using a AVGA card. The whole point of using an AVGA card is to get the resolutions exactly like the original games.

I bet if you'd understood (or read?) the Ultimarc monitor faq, not to mention the monitor section of the wiki, you would've been able to solve it yourself. Of course, it's so much easier, and reveals a lot about how things work, if one uses Mame32/UI when setting parametres, as you don't have to 'pull out of thin air' the values and such.
