I am thinking of getting a trigger joystick and was leaning towards this one from happs:

http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/50997000.htm (http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/50997000.htm)
My question is does anyone know if this is a usb joystick or do I need to connect it to a controller?
I've got my regular joysticks and Ipac ready to go but am unfamilar with the trigger joysticks.
Thinking about getting the trigger and 2 buttons on the joystick.
Is this a good one for the price?
Any comments are appreciated...

this is a very solid joystick it is an 8way stick with four microswitches plus a trigger button and 1 or 2 thumb buttons
it is not usb you need to hook up the microswitches to your Ipac
you can usually get a better price from someone like Divemaster over in the buy sell trade thread
what is your primary use for this going to be?

I have 2 of these in stock if you need

Primarily it for Discs of Tron and I decided to get the extra buttons on the stick for other games which might take advantage of them (though I can;t think of any off the top of my head)

Hey Charles4400,
I used to have one and they are built very well. I little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

The extra button IS used in DOT. Personally, I wanted to be sure I had extra, so I got me the model that has two big orange/red buttons encased in the housing. It was NOS and I found it on ebay, I think for $40 shipped, and suggest you look there.

Thanks Ummon I'll check it out....Yes I know the extra single button is used for DOT but I was thinking of getting the extra 2 buttons + trigger..... can't think of a game that uses the 2 buttons with trigger but just didn;t want to limit myself....btw what is 'NOS'?
-
NOS stands for new old stock. It is stuff that was manufactured a while ago but was never used. So it is in new condition but isn't really "new" per se

Us Vs. Them
Could also be handy for an acceptable Xybots replacement for those unique twist/spring sticks.

M.A.C.H. 3, maybe?
-
M.A.C.H. 3 needs only 2 buttons, according to MAWS: http://www.mameworld.net/maws/ (search on "mach3" & "usvsthem"). 2 buttons are guns & bombs for overhead view segments, guns & missiles for behind-the-plane segments.
It came out in 83, & Us Vs. Them came out in 84, as a conversion kit for M.A.C.H. 3.
Odd that the image on klov.com shows a 3-button stick on M.A.C.H. 3...wonder how the buttons are mapped? M.A.C.H. 3 had the 3 button-stick, since it needed only 2...perhaps Mylstar had the foresight to figure that they might want a 3-button stick for a future kit...?

Yes, I've looked at the info on MAWS. As I recall from playing it way back when (caution: foggy memory ahead), the M.A.C.H. 3 joystick didn't NEED the trigger and two buttons, but it did USE them. The trigger was for firing guns, while the thumb buttons were for missiles and bombs, just like the buttons on the control panel. This appears to be consistent with the instruction manual available on KLOV.com, as well.

Go for the 2 button plus trigger model. You can never have too many buttons ;D
I have one and agree the thing is built like a tank. I don't find myself using it as much as I thought I would, however.

Great stick for DOT. Make sure you get the push/pull spinner to go with it...
I'm very pleased with this controller, worth every penny. My only complaint is that it is way too twitchy for the lightcycle portion of the first Tron game.

Mmm, I hadn't though of that. When I get my yoke/flightstick panel set up, I'll have to check that out....although the monitor for that cab won't be running native. Hmmm.
MACH 3 just had both hooked up for bombs/missles. I don't recall Us vs THEM using them differently.

Yup, on Us vs Them, the left thumb button rolls your ship left 90deg & the right button rolls your ship right 90deg. Required (or at least handy) for some stages.

Add Aqua Jack to the list of games that run with a 3-button trigger stick (plus a throttle pedal).
Pretty fun game, actually.

Oh, right. I do vaguely remember that. I think I didn't prefer it; it seemed blocky.
