Title: MagicEngine update (attn: ArcadeVGA owners)
Post by: Minwah on May 08, 2008, 12:20:31 pm
I haven't tried this yet (will do tonight), but MagicEngine has been updated, and it should now support ArcadeVGA resolutions!  :)

Note that v1.1.0 is the big update, but in the forum is bugfix v1.1.1

its an engine that is magical, requires no fuel, will run forever. Or maybe its a turbographx 16 emulator(might emulate a few other systems also not sure I just use it for turbographx f16

I just don't understand how they can get away with charging for an emulator...  Paying for an emulator just doesn't make any sense.  Now supporting an emulator developer by giving a donation is fine, but I don't agree with charging for an emulator.

MagicEngine has always been a VERY exceptional emulator.  I payed for it many years ago and it was worth every single penny.

I've used it off and on for years, but not much. I can't find an auto frame skip. Any clues?
I think I have .99 or 1.0 on my cab, not sure.
I can set it to skip X amount of frames, but haven't found an auto skip. It runs either too slow or too fast depending on the setting.

Sorry I forgot to paste the link in my original post.

I have to second that it is a very good emulator. Still haven't tried it but low res. support should be the finishing touch really.

I see they're all anime-themed. Did they even exist in Japanese arcades?

Don't know if any else has tried this but unfortunately while low-res modes are listed, I can't get them to work (PCE crashes).  Will reoprt at the Magic Engine forum...

Edit: someone else has it working OK, so gonna play around with the pce.ini file...

someone should also give it a try on a soft15khz setup.

btw, I thought this was a pay emulator.  Did they change?

You can download a demo, but I think it is limited to 5 mins (although you can use save states). It costs 15 Euro's to register.

OK got it working! Now using v1.1.2.  I think the problem was I had an aspect ratio setting wrong, it should be set to 0.  Another thing is that I can't get the GUI to run low-res, but that doesn't really matter, the games look great :)

Sorry, didn't see your post before...

There is an option for frameskip in pce.ini...but I don't think there is auto frameskip.  I would just turn it off (set to 0).

Yeah....not exactly possible. I run it on a 733mhz and it's not even close to playable at that. At 1 frame skip, it's still slow, and at 2 frame skip, it's mostly good, but can be too fast in spots.

I haven't tried Hugo in years. I'll have to revisit that.

yeah it worked great on xbox so I tried it with mamewah also and it works flawless.

it requires the GTK+ in order to run though becuase that is what it was based off of.
