Is there any way to set up my cabinet so I have separate lists for vertical games and horizontal games that display properly depending on what controls you are using?
I'm going to be "fixing" my cocktail table over the next few weeks and I'd like to finally sort this out. I'm thinking of installing MaLa and bringing the roms up to date... am I on the right track?

absolutely.
mala most certainly can flip the orientation of the screen and/or switch lists depending on who is using the controls at the time.

But how will it know? Is it based on the game list currently displayed? My P1 and P3 joysticks are each wired to the same place on the iPac2...

Yes, There is an option to have MaLa rotate depending on the current game list

Damn. MaLa rules. Thanks loadman - I'm going to hopefully do some tweaking to the old cab this weekend and try and get MaLa up and running...

Cool... There are a few rotation options
Depending on what you like and how you have wired your controls will determine the method you choose.
I personally lke having my controls wired up seperatly and have MaLa flip around to what controls are touched.
Also having my controls wired up seperatly is cool for a game like 'demolition derby' beacuse players from all around the table can join in the game.
Have a play

This is how I want to set it up but I can't unless I get an iPac4, correct?

Well I get away with it with a standad I-pac (3 sets of controls) but I have only allocated 3 buttons per player.

Ahhh, yeah - I have 3 buttons per player on the ends but the long side I use 6 for each player... I've thought about ordering an ipac4 and swapping it out with my ipac2 and using that in another cab... maybe I'll do that eventually...
