I mean, all the penny ante crap he's always pulled didn't really mean much... but this time (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2871625) it's bad. We're talking go directly to prison forfeit your millions no one will defend you this time bad.

I think that this leads to a more underlying issue in the NFL. The comishener is trying to deal with it by the recent suspensions handed down to players for inappropriate behavior, PacMan and Tank. There might be something like this or worse waiting for Vic. He has tried to cover his but, however he may not be able to get out of this. I say he made his bed let him sleep in it.
-
Really just plain stupid, huh? I don't get it either. :dunno
You may be wondering why in the hell a guy like that would have anything to do with dog fighting. I think I can shed a little light on this one. My little brother went to play football at Virginia Tech the year after Vick left. He was a pretty big-time QB recruit, so they had Vick showing him around in his visit. Anyhow, I am not sure about the general population in Blacksburg, but for some reason the whole dog fighting thing runs rampant within the football team. Almost everyone of my brother's football buddies had a pitbull. Many of those people fought them as well. In my visits there we went over to several different players houses/apartments that were breeding fighting Pit Bulls. My brother even had to take care of someone's Pit for a few days once. The thing ended up giving birth to 8 puppies under his computer desk.
I am not really sure why that culture has developed there. Maybe it is because Blacksburg is a small town with not much at all to do. Who knows? I am however pretty positive that Vick picked up this nasty little hobby in college.
-
Still, you gotta figure, with the microscope these guys are under, why the hell would a sane person risk that? I mean, even for someone as supremely arrogant and stupid as Vick, that much has to be obvious.
-
Stupid is the key word.
-
Could a pro athlete actually consider themselves that untouchable? That they could be funding and involved in operating something as blatantly illegal and brutal as an animal fighting operation, literally thinking no one would say anything?
I love how, in all this mess, no one thinks anything amiss that they were in the property for a drug warrant. What else was going on there?
-
Micheal Vick and his brother are both pieces of crap! Michael is a good athlete, but an average QB at best. They should thow him out of the league and sentence him to fight a pack of pitbulls.
-
But I like watching Derrick Brooks pwn him every year.

Just curious, but how do a bunch of fottball players that live in dorm rooms have pet pitbulls? :dunno

Well, he did say house/apartments not dorms. And if they were football palyers on scholarships they are handed everything, they don't live in dorms.
-

Eh, yes, actually, they have to live in dorms. NCAA has some fairly strict rules.
Now, of course, 'there are ways' around it. Texas A&M suddenly decided it would be cheaper to put the athletes in apartments and use the athlete dorm for offices. Not sure if they've continued to get away with that.
They also have to allow regular students into the athlete dorms. Usually the 'way around' that is to require students to purchase a really expensive meal plan or something.
Eh, no, actually they can live off-campus.
From the Virginia Tech Student Athlete Handbook:
Off-Campus Housing
Student-athletes desiring to live off-campus must first obtain approval
from their coach and sport administrator. You should have a telephone
in your off-campus residence and provide your coach with your phone
number and address.
If you are living off-campus in a private residence (e.g., renting a room
in a private, leasing a house), as a condition of participation, a copy of
your lease/rental agreement must be in your athletic file. In addition,
you are encouraged to pay rent by check or money order to keep proper
records (i.e., receipts, canceled checks, miscellaneous charges).
If you have such a living arrangement, notify your coach.

Many of them all lived in the same townhouse complex. That is where my brother lived. Believe it or not, my brother's address was 420 Janie Lane. They lived up to address, too.
I was visiting for a game one time when my brother had to stay at a hotel with the team the night before a game. Some of his buddies and roommates weren't dressing out for the game, so they didn't have to stay in the hotel. So it's 4:00 am and the "party" is still kicking in the townhouse, but I look around and realize something isn't right. They had the music as loud as I have ever heard and every door and window open. I say, "Shouldn't we turn the music down? It's 4:00 am and the neighbors are probably sleeping." "No, no, no. It's cool. Everybody loves us." Well, obviously, 10 minutes later a cop comes to the front door, and since it is wide freakin' open he can obviously see everything that is going on. He had probable cause to enter when he saw the two foot bong on the table. The cop is trying to gather everybody together in the living room, and when he turns his back my brother's best friend (craziest bastard I know) chucks the bags behind the fridge and grabs the bong and runs outside. He stuck it in a trash can 2 houses down. After like an hour, the cop finally finds it, confiscated it, and leaves, but he forgot about the bags. :laugh2: The next day the newspaper said that drug paraphernalia was confiscated on the 400 block of Janie Lane. My mom asked me if we knew which neighbor it was. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
Wow, that was way off-topic. Nothing to see here.
-
Vick is going to jail - he's going to plead guilty. News just out.
:tool:
-
Yeah and he better hope that he catches the judge on a good day during sentencing, because the judge is in no way bound to the terms of the plea deal. He can still slap the maximum penalty if he chooses to.
-
My best guess is he's going near the max terms of the original indictment and that the deal was all about not bringing additional charges. He's looking at like 5 years now... if they superseded this indictment with another, or if the state brought racketeering charges, he was going in for the rest of his life (a 40 year bid).
-
The football pundits are already saying "Mike Vick will be back." As a Falcon fan (god help me), I'm just glad the little punk is gone....
-
I was reading something earlier mentioning a range of 12-18 months...
edit: of prison time.
-
If the NFL has a sack they'll give him the Pete Rose treatment for running a gambling ring.
If the CFL has a sack they'll give him the Ricky Williams treatment and say "no more NFL suspension players".
If the AFL has a sack they'll sign him.
-
I think it's a shame we all prejudged him like Tommy said ::)
-
Yeah...we were WAAAAYYYY off.
Jouster
-
i don't get it ... is contract with the Falcons is around 13 millions , and the bet on dog fighting only a few thousand :dunno
why risking everything for that ????
13 millions ::) how many more cab could i have with that
-
Erm... not 13 million... 130 million.
-
Erm... not 13 million... 130 million.
;) i know, i just realise that a few minutes later ...
so, 130 million...that a very nice game room...and enough money left over to invite all BYOAC members for a mega party

Hell, with 130 million I would hire hot strippers instead and put your nametags on them.
-
I think it's a shame we all prejudged him like Tommy said ::)
It was in his best interest to plead guilty no matter if he did it or not, with 4 guys and the government all out to see him burn for this, he had no choice. Now, that is not to say he did or did not do any of this, it's just the odds against him were so bad and having no faith in the system he took the easy way out. I would have too.
-
So you still don't think he is guilty? Even when he admits it and goes to jail for it?
-
He has to admit guilt (a small degree of guilt) to take the deal and get this behind him as quick and painless as possible.
Even if he was innocent, with three so called friends and so called people who know him well testifying against him it would be hard no matter what.
-
So what does it take for you to believe he did it? There are witnesses, evidence, his actual admission... do you need to see it yourself? The entire burden of proof is satisfied and you still won't admit it.
-
I'm not here to judge him one way or the other, I'm just giving my opinions on how things could have played out and maybe why things are going the way they are.
Just because I'm putting up an argument does not mean i think he is innocent.
-
Fair enough. I think at this point even the most ardent of his supporters have to admit he did these things. He admits it himself.
-
As usual, the Vick thing was being talked about on the radio this morning. Vick was so sure that he'd get off scott free because of being "Michael Vick" that he didn't even hire a good lawyer until it was too late. Guilty or innocent, if you can afford it you get the absolute best defense in a case like this, more so if you are innocent. Now he's got to pay a guy a million dollars to watch him sign a plea deal so cut and dry that even a public defender could represent him well at this point. I'd say that Mike Vick is well aware now how serious the situation is.
-
That's some irony for you. Half of Atlanta is convinced he's going to jail because he's black - and Vick himself thought he could get off because he's Vick.
-
If the CFL has a sack they'll give him the Ricky Williams treatment and say "no more NFL suspension players".
Football fans won't see disgraced NFL quarterback Michael Vick in the uniform of a CFL team anytime soon, if ever.
While CFL commissioner Mark Cohon declined to comment on the Vick situation, a league spokesman pointed out yesterday that a league rule, instituted last spring, does not allow a team to sign a player under suspension in another league.

NAACP: Michael Vick Should Return to the NFL (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,294149,00.html)
As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football
I agree,
What's the big deal anyway? In some countries people use dogs for food.
We shouldn't hold this aganst him. We aren't just punishing him we're punishing all the people who would benifit from him playing.
Think of the other team members, the fans, and his family.
If not for them, think of me!!!
I have him on my keeper league fantasy football team.
-
I have him on my keeper league fantasy football team.
How is your scoring set up so that asshammer could POSSIBLY be considered a keeper? Who's your backup, Todd Marinovich? ;)
-
I'll be frank. If you support Michael Vick and think he's innocent, then you're a dumbass. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go straight to Tardville.
The guy is a waste of human biological material. I went to Tech while he (and then his brother) was there, I worked for the VT police department, and I know that the SOB got away with rape, drug-dealing, and pit-bull bodies were found frequently in an area near his apartment.
:soapbox:
-
He was raping pit bulls? That's hardcore.
-
Maybe that part was left out of the Fed's case because he's Vick??
Jouster
-
He was raping pit bulls? That's hardcore.
Not really. That's what the drug-dealing was for. To get 'em in the mood.
-
The funny thing is that no one ever seems to care that this whole thing was discovered by accident when the cops exercised a warrant looking for drugs. One of these guys was arrested for dealing and they were looking for his supply. So not only were they dogfighting they were drugdealing out of this place... but I guess that doesn't matter.
-
And now it comes out that Vick's been doing this for some time - allegedly out of his parent's garage, according to the estranged father.....who also asked for 700,000 from his wealthy son.
Now obviously dear old dad is enjoying heaping on. Yet one has to wonder (or I do) - how deep does this go? If dear old Dad stays in that kind of bind, could he have been the one who actually got Vick into dogfighting to begin with (a gambling ring out of the garage)? Is he still doing it? etc.
The NAACP can holler all they want to about stop heaping on poor old Mike Vick....rich old Mike Vick did this to himself, and he is one sick messed up dude.

Michael Vick's father said he pushed his son to quit dogfighting years ago or, at least, put property used for the fights in the name of friends to avoid being implicated some day.
Michael Boddie, in two sometimes tearful interviews with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution this week, said some time around 2001 his son staged dogfights in the garage of the family's home in Newport News, Va. Boddie also said Vick kept fighting dogs in the family's back yard, including injured ones – “bit up, chewed up, exhausted” – that the father nursed back to health.
Boddie, who is estranged from his son, dismissed the idea that Vick's longtime friends were the main instigators of the dogfighting operation.
“I wish people would stop sugarcoating it,” Boddie said. “This is Mike's thing. And he knows it.”
He “likes it, and he has the capital to have a set-up like that.”
An attorney for Vick did not return requests for comment. Neither did Vick's mother, Brenda Vick Boddie, who hasn't lived with her husband for the past five years.
Boddie said he and the Atlanta Falcons quarterback have had a volatile relationship for years and that his son has refused to speak with him directly for the past two and a half months. Boddie said he is speaking out because he's been hurt by his son and wife's failure over the years to correct what he considers inaccurate media reports that Vick grew up without his father present.
“I've been drug through the mud,” Boddie said.
He said he intends to write a damaging book about more of what he knows.
Boddie, 45, lives in a Duluth, Ga., apartment that his son has paid the rent on for the past three years. Vick, who has a $130 million contract with the Falcons, also gives him a few hundred dollars every week or two, the father said.
Boddie wanted more. Two years ago, he said, he asked Vick for $1 million, spread out over 12 years, enough to keep him comfortable for the rest of his life. Vick declined, the father said. In recent weeks, Boddie asked Vick, through an assistant, for $700,000 to live on.

Boy with a role model like that, it's no wonder the Vick brothers have turned out so well... ::)

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/08/24/michael.vick/index.html
So, he buys property, buys the dogs, pays to have the dogs trained, supplies ALL of the gambling money... but DOES NOT bet himself or accept any proceeds from bets!! :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
Damn he is a nice guy to be so charitable isn't he...or else his dogs suck so bad that they never won a fight. ;D Last I checked, win or lose, if you put the money on the line you are GAMBLING.
I can just see the prosectutors holding back a smirk when he signs the perjured plea deal. I bet they already have the transaction records showing he accepted money somewhere along the line.
-
Yeah, this is seriously arrogant, and I bet his attorney is one step away from malpractice in letting it happen.
-
My coworker believes they allowed this ridiculous plea deal because he rolled on some big names in the dog fighting world. We'll see...
-
I doubt that. He's so stupid he probably is still sticking to the ghetto code and won't turn anything over.
I think he won't admit to gambling because running a gambling ring gets an automatic lifetime ban from the NFL.

I just saw this cartoon and thought it was pretty funny. The headline read "Lets Hope"

I really wish you guys would stop thinking your opinions are case facts.

Tommy, no pun intended, but it's a matter of playing the odds.
What other clichés can I come up with?
- Where there's smoke, there's fire
- If it looks and smells like ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- . . .
- When you've been federally indicted and entered a plea of guilty . . .
Well, that last one maybe not. But come on.
-
I just can't believe someone would trip over himself to defend a scumbag like Vick.
I really wish you guys would stop thinking your opinions are case facts.
The facts of the case are on the table, and by the admission of all indicted, they are then solidified as facts. It doesn't get much clearer than that, and there is no opinions involved.
-
Tell me what the facts are. Tell me what's been proven exactly and how you know it's been proven. Is it proven because others involved in the case are trying to save their ass and everything is based on them pointing their finger at him. Pleading guilty does not mean he is guilty, it's just a way to get it all over with fast.
But again, i'm just putting up an argument for the sake of it, i do not care if he did it or not.
Nothing wrong with a decent conversation if a few guys here could do it without acting like fools about it.
-
His admission is proof. If you don't even believe the words out of his mouth than you are never going to believe it happened.
We know it happened because he says it happened.
-
Well, it's not necessarily. He could be pleading to a lesser charge because it looks so bad for him and if it goes to trial the prosecutors will try him on far worse charges and it's better to cop to the lesser charge than take the chances of an unsympathetic jury.
On the other hand, don't be ridiculous, he's guilty.
-
Re:Tommy - I'm pretty sure I already stated the facts I know about the sleazebag earlier on in the thread when I mentioned that I used to work for the Virginia Tech police department. Anyway, as Shardian and Chad have pointed out, he's admitted to it. If you really think that he went with the plea bargain instead of a trial because he was getting the shaft for being black/famous/whatever, then you're a piece of work.
-
His admission is proof. If you don't even believe the words out of his mouth than you are never going to believe it happened.
We know it happened because he says it happened.
I know he said and had to admit to some degree of guilt, that's how it goes when you take a deal no matter if you did anything or not.
If these 3 "friends" did not try to sell him out and only try to protect their own ass this would have gone to trial. Now with 3 guys saying they all were there and vick is the mastermind he has no chance. That does not mean what they say is true, but it is really too hard to ignore either way.
-
For an "NFL expert," you sure don't know what you're talking about when it comes to this football player.
-
You're a waste of time to try to talk to, so i won't be doing that anymore.
-
You're a waste of time to try to talk to, so i won't be doing that anymore.
The feeling's more than mutual, but I hope you at least realize that your continued defense of Vick only makes you look foolish. It doesn't appear that the rest of the people participating in this thread are so deluded by his celebrity.
-
The only thing really in question is whether he did in fact bet on the dogs, or in fact personally killed them. He does in fact own the house in question. He most definitely was supplying the money for the operation. The Bad Newz Kennels was his company. The sole purpose of the Kennel was to breed Pit Bulls. These facts have nothing to do with his guilty plea, as they are concrete facts based on records. We do not know the specific details of what concrete proof the feds have against Vick regarding the gambling and killings, but it is a pretty safe conclusion that they do in fact have concrete evidence implicating him. They definitely have enough evidence that he can be placed at the scene and he was in fact well aware of what was going on at the property.
The facts are the facts, and they speak for themselves.
-
Okay, if you won't believe the three accomplices, how about the several other witnesses they have in line that aren't charged? Or his own father?
Or how about the fact that he lied directly to the face of the NFL Commissioner when the guy was trying to cut him a fair shake? He told Goodell that he didn't even know the place was fighting dogs.
-
Or how about the fact that he lied directly to the face of the NFL Commissioner when the guy was trying to cut him a fair shake? He told Goodell that he didn't even know the place was fighting dogs.
You don't understand what i'm saying. That may have not been a lie, just because he has to go back on that now and admit it, it may only be from the plea deal and he would have to say these things to take the deal now. ]
He has to admit guilt now no matter what, so the lie may be that he is admitting guilt for nothing, if anything.
-
Tommy you are so far out there even the Hubble Telescope can't see you.
-
Tommy you are so far out there even the Hubble Telescope can't see you.
Everyone already has their mind up about Vick and there is nothing anyone can do to fix that, no matter what. Too bad your minds being made up already are only base on bad feelings about dogs being killed by someone and we do not know who did it.
-

So you cannot be convinced. I get the feeling that if you saw him doing these things you'd be saying "well, he may not be doing them, he could be acting and I just don't see the camera crew".
-
Tommy, you need a visit from...
-
Can you honestly tell me that you know for a FACT that Vick killed dogs. Isn't it at all possible that the other3 guys did it instead?
-
Not that he killed them, not yet, as that hasn't been proven in court. We do know he did many of the things he has been accused of... he has admitted to them in court and lying about it, for any reason, would be felony perjury. It still stands to be proven that he actually killed any dogs himself, and we'll have to see if that ever gets a day in court. I think it will as his plea won't satisfy the people that want to see him punished.
The Falcons are going after $22mil of his bonus money now... so, in the grand scheme of things, being banished from the NFL, losing all of his future earnings, and most of his past earnings is a much larger punishment than going to jail for 18 months.

I will kindly refer you to my previous statement of facts. Please at least read what people are saying to you. In my previous statement, I did say that to the publics knowledge, there is no conclusive evidence that he personally killed the dogs. However, in his statement of facts he indirectly admitted to being responsible for killing the dogs.
Your argument that "he is being setup" and is only pleading guilty because he knows he screwed is extremely flawed. Have you been following the same news story for the last year or so as the rest of us?
I guess that we all just need to bow out of this thread since we are chasing Tommy while he runs in a circle like a ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?--- against the rules of the sign. ;D
-
tommy isn't saying he's being set up - he's saying that there is the possibility that he's just copping out to avoid going to jail for longer, even though he did nothing, because there is no other way for him.
Of course, that's all crap, he did these things and has been doing them for years. There are too many people piling on with witness accounts.

Not that he killed them, not yet, as that hasn't been proven in court.
That's all i wanted to get out of you. So calling him scumbag and worthless is a bit too early now, isn't it.
-
I consider people who train dogs for fighting and run a gambling ring on the fights to be scumbags and worthless. He doesn't have to have actually killed any dogs with his own hands to be those things.
-
I just wanted to get people thinking and have actual facts before making stupid comments about vick. We all know this would be a horrible crime if he or anyone killed these animals, but for some of us to just sit here and type comments going on our gut feeling is not cool to me.
I would think we all would want to get to the bottom of the real issue if it were you or me on that hot seat and not judge until you had your say. Things are not always how they seem sometimes. Then again, maybe they are.

We are public opinion. We're not a court of law.

Dude, you have made my morning brighter with your funny posts. Thank you.
There is only one person here ignoring the facts and going on gut feeling. ;) Whether he personally killed the dogs is irrelevant. He has admitted to being complicit in the killings.

tommy's just hoping that when he gets out the Giants will sign him. They have to do something - they have crap for QBs.

I don't want that dog murderer on our team. :laugh2:

So you must have heard what I heard - that the judge asked Vick if he was honestly guilty of the charges against him and he said "Yes sir." What more do we need?
-
Are you kidding me? He has to say it to take the deal, no matter what. If he said i'm innocent he would have 3 guys ready to bury him in court. Surly you guys can understand that part.

I don't think it is their words that would hurt Vick. More likely the collective cell-phone pics/ vids and regular camera pics/vids of all of their events and dealings that they would be supplying the prosecution.
That is what has always baffled me about Vick. He walks into these dog fights with his posse. everyone there knows who he is, and everyone in the place has a camera phone aimed at him. I wonder if that thought ever crossed his mind.
-
He didn't care, he thought he was above consequences. That is pretty clear. He can't be that stupid to think no one would ever tell.

Thanks to last week’s storms the first day for my fantasy football league was delayed a week, hopefully these charges against Vick get swept under the rug before Saturday.
-
Tommy, do you think OJ is after the "real" killer?
I'll admit that my mind was made up on Vick as soon as I heard the charges, but then I knew about his career at Tech and already knew he was a huge piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Dudes ALMOST as bad as that Eli Manning P.O.S....

"want to get people thinking"
What a crock.
Facts have been given to you. Facts that only add to the guilt of Vick if he's also guilty of killing the dogs.
You continually come back to "did they prove he killed blah blah blah". In light of the other facts that you've been given, it is now irrelevant.
He's a scumbag. Adding on additional things if he's proven guilty only makes him "scumbag-ier". Add "-est" or "-ier" for every additional item he's guilty of.
You're continuing to overlook the facts that HAVE been thrown in your face, choosing to focus on only what you desire to have proven. That's your choice, but Vick is a scumbag for the myriad of things he's done up to and including this day.
You continuing to question your thin slice of his world you're concerned about doesn't change the fact that he's a scumbag for what has been factually proven thus far.
Of all the people here, I'd think you, tommy, as an owner of a pit bull, would be crying the loudest to dump this scumbag breeder/fight club operator/liar into the depths of the worst prison they could find.
The thinking has been done. The facts have been given to you by others in this thread. When are you going to stop playing "dress-up" and acknowledge that Vick is a scumbag for what's already been factually proven, and that adding the OTHER crap you're pretending you're holding out hope for being proven or disproven?
You've been smacked in the face with facts. Let the rest of us know why you need ADDITIONAL facts to judge Vick a scumbag, instead of playing this idiotic game of "well they didn't prove this or that!"
He's a scumbag for what's been factually proven, AND admitted to - two separate things you're whining for. Time to own up to what you're really hoping for, why, and what it'll take for you to FINALLY acknowledge and state that Vick is a scumbag.

Well, everything is resolved now. Michael Vick announced that he has found Jesus and is ready to put this behind him. :laugh2:

I didn't even know that Jesus was lost ;)

Personally I don't think it's our place to judge that part of Vick's statement, that he found God. Perhaps he has; he's certainly going to need spiritual guideance where he's going- I have my own personal opinion of it, but I'm not going to share it here.
What I'd like to know is that if seeing Moses come down from the mountain with two more tablets that said "Vick is Guilty", if the Vick supoprters on here have finally admitted it to themselves yet. God, and I thought I had on thick rose-colored glasses during the Benoit investigation. Tommy man, no offense, but you've got me beat in idol worship - at least I was able to get to a point where I realized Benoit did it. You really need to break those glasses regarding your sports heros. They are fallible - Vick is ONLY one of the first few that has fallen.

No reason I should start being tight-lipped about my opinion now! ;)
I find absolutely no problem with judging Vick's statement, because I listened to his crap statement. Tommy NEEDS to listen to it, so he can stop hoping people won't think Vick is a scumbag, and get on to helping O.J. find "the real killer" (psst.....check his mirror ::) )
Listen to the entire crap festival here (http://www.zshare.net/audio/33408854229c63/)
I am willing to acknowledge Vick is "owning up" to his actions. I am NOT willing to acknowledge Vick "found jaey-susss" because of his exact words - it's a transparent attempt to garner sympathy from people who wouldn't otherwise make time to piss on him if he were on fire. My exact reason I believe he's a bald-faced liar:
I understand it's important as far as what you say or how you say things......through this situation I found Jesus, and axed (sic) him for forgiveness and turned my life over to God. I think that's the right thing to do as of right now
In my mind, he just admitted he understands that he needs to take whatever means available to get people to come to his side, and is willing to do whatever that entails, up to and including insincere and/or dishonest means.
Just when I thought he'd reached rock bottom, he broke out the backhoe and said "hold my beer and watch THIS!"

Did I mention just how bad Eli Manning is?
Oh yeah...and Vick is a scum bag.
