Hey guys I'm new here but I'm not new to arcade gaming! I own four units and now I'm making a fifth I own a San Francisco Rush 2049, NBA JAM, Centipede, and Galaga.
Anyways I'm not going to talk about those units, instead I'm going to talk about my mame cabinet.
I work for a company in Sunnyvale, CA called WeirdStuff Warehouse we do computer re-marketing and we also do building clean-outs and one of the VERY cool buildings we were able to go and clean out was the Ultracade building!!!! You know they are merging with Global VR and they are all going to be under one roof so Ultracade moved in with Global VR. Anyways we got all the development "trash" and about 20 empty cabinets, and some dedicated JAMMA motherboards like Donkey Kong, Street Fighter II, and Jr. PAC-MAN.
One of the really cool things that we got was a couple devices called "JAMMALinx" Apparently they interface standard jamma connectors and controls with your PC! I'd like to play with it but there is no documentation on the web about it! I also got a bunch of Quantum3D Quicksilver II systems and Quantum3D GCI (Game Control Interface) boards which apparently do the same sort of thing.
Point is I've got all this cool stuff but I don't know how to use it at all!!!!
On a better note I've taken one of their Street Fighter II cabinets that was empty and I'm currently in the process of turning it into a mame machine! I stripped the side-art and stuff so now it looks like a nice plain black cabinet. I've gutted a Quicksilver II chassis that was a Hydro Thunder game and stuck in and Athlon XP 2000+ running Windows XP Pro and a gig of ram with a ATI Radeon 9200 with s-Video output. I got a 27" sony television free and I'm going to stick it in there. We got buttons and joysticks when we did the clean-out so I'm going to use those, and lastly I've ordered the KeyWiz to control the whole set-up! It's coming along quite nicely and It looks like a real arcade cab, not at all like a franken-cab!

Do you guys still have anymore of the parts in the warehouse? I'm local and wouldn't mind picking some stuff up to see if I can figure it out.

Boat anchors?
;)
-
You know I'm trying to figure out why you don't like Ultracade. But it doesn't matter, because the stuff I've got is not boat anchors! maybe it would be if I had complete systems. but all I've got is parts, and you know that Ultracade didn't use any proprietary parts, they just used off-the-shelf parts like the rest of us and managed to get licenses to sell it!
Anyways thats not the conducive with the subject matter. I'm trying to figure out what this stuff does!
I'll get a detailed list of what I've got once I get to work.

One Mr D Foley *Spit* would be the answer to that....
Not a name mentioned in Mame circles unless you are wearing your flame proof vest..
;D

I for one would like to have as much info about ultracade as possible. There are many sayings about knowing thy ENEMY. Jamma linx sounds interesting. Can we get more pics of this device?
-
Yeah, yeah, they're terrible... let the guy get on with his post.

JAMMAlinx is Quantum3D's third generation JAMMA connectivity solution. JAMMAlinx features patent-pending innovations that provide seamless connectivity to industry standard JAMMA controls. JAMMAlinx connects Graphite and Quicksilver II systems to a variety of game control devices including joysticks, buttons and coin boxes. In addition, JAMMAlinx includes Quantum3D's POWERlinx and AudioAMP products to provide a single solution, enabling manufacturers to reduce development time and costs.
Interesting. This is from a 1999 press release (http://www.quantum3d.com/press/HTMLarchive/11_15_99_jammalx.htm) but I've never heard of it. Perhaps it was never made available to the public and was just used by Ultracade? Or maybe I just missed it :)
EDIT: Edited to change the "code" tags to "quote" tags because the "code" tags sent the right side of the forum shooting out beyond the edges of my screen

humm, I've read all the current information about the jammalinx available online through a google search. I'm sort of looking for someone with detailed knowledge of the device.

I wasn't attempting to inform you of info that you weren't aware of, nor was I implying that you hadn't done any Google searching. I was just posting some info about the item and noting that even though it was released in 1999 (~seven years ago) I'd never heard of it.
