Dude you spent that kind of money on a BB gun??  ;)  Actually it looks like a lot of fun.  Especially for those annoying neighbors pets.

Sugg. Retail Price: $629.95Our Price: $559.95

WHOA!   Atta boy, nice to see someone else is able to spend rediculous amounts of money on something that is more or less useless :)

Personally, I've always wanted one of these, but the price seems a tad steep (watch the vids!)

$600 to play a sophisticated version of "ring and run"?  Ahh... I'll have to pass.  Plus I live in New York so if I even think about purchasing such a thing, Bloomberg will come to my house and beat the living snot out of me.

I know very little about the nuts and bolts of guns, but .22 caliber is a lot bigger than a bb isn't it?  I remember shooting 22 caliber rifles in boy scouts as a kid and putting the bullets in straws and throwing them into the air so they would fire when they hit the ground.  The slugs were probably 3 times the size of a bb and they shot with a lot more force.  If I were to shoot someone's doorbell with it the thing would be destroyed.

Also, if the neighbor figures out that you are firing even a bb gun at the front door you're going to be in a lot of trouble.  I'm sure there are all kinds of serious charges like reckless endangerment that could be levelled against you.

Indeed.

Even if you were firing some stupid nerf projectiles, they could probably nail you with harassment, at least.

Not sure where you live, but where I live, someone pointing a gun at your home, real or not, is committing a felony.

Not only that, but once I realized it was a BB gun, you'd better be faster than I am.

It seems impossible, but I think that just shoots air?  ???

No damage, no evidence?

All the guy would have to do is file a criminal complaint and danny could be hauled off in cuffs when the cops show up and he's still doing it.

BBs would damage the house if it had something like aluminum siding.

It's not the gun that is the problem, it's the fact that he's freakin shooting someone's house with it.

It is not legal to shoot at people or their property.

It would probably have been cooler if you spent the money on components and BYO "universal doorbell remote". That way, you wouldnt even need a L.O.S. and would have appealed to the geek-ness of this community.  ;)

Well, yeah.  If you can't shoot at people and property, what the hell is the 2nd Amendment for?

I think that's his point, at least.

Not much of a point.

Guns - shooting on your own property, self defense, or licensed ranges.

Unless that guy's doorbell is coming right at you, or he left it in your yard, you're SOL.

I dunno I think Id have a fair bit of fun with that beast :)  I would be shootin the doorbell for hours, just to watch buddy come outside every 20 seconds looking for someone on his doorstep.  You just wait, he'll either see you, or a few hundred BB's on his doorstep and catch on.

Lest anyone think I was serious, that was meant as sarcasm.  What this gun is being used for obviously does not fall under 2nd Amendment protection.  Just because the 2nd Amendment protects the right to keep and bare arms, doesn't mean all uses of arms are suddenly legal.  Murder, armed robbery, being a public nuisance, and recklessly endangering the safety and/or property of your neighbors all come to mind.

It's at least as productive as hurling a rock through the wall into the living room.

That's no where near as fun as hurling a rock through a wall though.

To clear things up a bit...yes its illegal but this guys ghetto children have been ringing my doorbell for months and 2 weeks ago his drunk wife hit my mailbox while driving intoxicated. And yeap you can hit it from a block away..if you seen our blocks you would understand..its very compact here. And as far as damages goes this guys house looked like a tornado hit it a few times and i have yet to break the doorbell :) he has 5 cars in his front yard and I think only 1 runs. And the final straw was he saw my arcade machines in my garage and made this comment and im quoting " arcades are for nerds and people that have no talent" so yes it's illegal but it's a needed justice to his many ghetto white trash crimes. Amen bacon

Kind of ironic to be calling someone else ghetto trash in a post bragging about shooting at their house. If its true, I hope the cops get you before he decides to start shooting back. Then again, you have that airtight "he called me a nerd" defense.

It's NEVER the gun that is the problem, as the OTHER 'merican NRA saying goes: Guns don't kill people, people with guns kill people! (did I get that right??)

The saying is "Guns don't kill people, people kill people."
And while cliche, it's fairly accurate.

I'm Texan. We're basically born with firearms.

True story: I owned a BB gun before I was in school. Dad bought it for me.

And kept it locked up along with his guns, because he's not an irresponsible firearm owner.

Still have the BB gun. Nowhere to shoot it, though.

Not sure where you absorbed my stance on gun control from that post, but whatever. None of my guns have ever been used to shoot anyone or their property.  By your own account, you have a .22 pellet gun capable of ringing a door bell from a block away. You KNOW kids live there and you're shooting it within inches of the front door.

Straight up, I think the whole story is BS, but I couldn't resist calling you out on bragging about a blatant criminal act. You're just looking for attention, and got it in a way you didn't expect. Maybe you could start another "fun" thread about breaking and entering or arson. Whee!

if you really are going around shooting up your community with that gun you got a lot of trouble coming your way. looks like a sniper rifle to me - i presume cops would think the same. maybe you can post to us from jail when bubbas finished having his way with you.

what is it with you yanks about guns?

look whats happened down in New Orleans - a terrible disaster and you've got anarchy with gun toting gangs shooting at rescuers for christ sake.

an event such as NO shows how easilly US civilization could easilly deteriorate into anarchy and the wide spread availablility of guns would facilitate it.
Title: Re: got a new toy
Post by: TOK on September 02, 2005, 10:11:14 am
That's such a sweeping generalization I can't see from one side to the other.

Guns didn't cause what is happening in New Orleans. If there weren't guns, they'd be stabbing and hitting people with rocks.
From the other side of your generalization, I can say that if something like that happened around me, I'd be damn glad I had the equipment to try and defend myself. I think a few 10 round bursts of 7.62 would convince most goblins that they don't need what I have that bad and move onto easier marks.
Property is replaceable, but whats happening down there is way beyond that.

There are as many Yanks that feel like you do as I, so the only thing that you need to understand is that it has nothing to do with your country of origin. I know there are thousands of hunters and sport shooters in England that dislike the stance on gun control.

Gun are great fun when used in a responsible manner.  However, what you did is not responsible.  Even if it was an airsoft gun you would have issues.

Erm, no.  Stop spreading malicious lies.

Malicious is a bit of a stretch, but check this out:

Survey finds many British pubs serving cask ale too warm

Industry efforts to set aside the notion that British "real ale" should be served warm and flat apparently have fallen on deaf ears. A survey of pubs across England found that 44% of pints exceed the suggested serving temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit (13 C).

Publicans in London, Essex, Middlesex, Cambridgeshire and the West Midlands all pulled pints measuring between 79 and 81 degrees F, and one in Kent served beer at 95 F !!

Inspectors made unannounced visits to pubs to check quality of beer served as cask ale (aka real ale). The findings were part of the organization's campaign to raise awareness of ale temperature.

A survey was conducted using qualified auditors who visited over 1,000 pubs throughout England of which 82% stocked traditional cask ale.

The survey findings showed that:

    * The quality of the pint in the glass was so poor in 23% of the outlets that inspectors stated they would not buy the pint again.
    * Poor quality was directly linked to the number of hand pulls on the bar. In 54% of the cases where inspectors stated they would not buy this pint again, too many brands on the bar was cited as a contributory factor. Pubs with over 5 hand pulls saw a marked drop in mean scores.
    * The other major cause of poor quality was failure to serve beer at the appropriate temperature (20% of all samples), but this was often linked to overall impressions of poor quality pub management in these outlets.
    * The worst performers with regard to beer quality were the independent free trade outlets, particularly in the south and south west of the country.
    * Poor quality was found in all types of pub, without significant variance between food pubs, rural pubs or city centre outlets

Paul Nunny, director of the Cask Marque quality control program, said many customers were confused about what makes the perfect pint. "Proper beer is cool, refreshing and thirst quenching," he said, noting that 52-55 degrees is preferred.

I find nothing but malice in suggesting a nation cannot properly serve its beer, especially a nation that produces beer at the quality of Canadian beer.

$600 for that stamped steel contraption? You could buy a nice rifle, or a nice firearm of most any type for that kind of money; or a nice Beeman if you are really into air rifles.

About the comments of it being .22 caliber; .22 caliber pellets intended for air rifles are much lighter than a .22 caliber bullet intended for say, a rifle chambered in .22 LR; not to mention that 950 FPS is slower than the speed of a .22 LR. So it is a fairly powerful "BB gun", but not anywhere near even the lowest powered of firearms.

Since the kids in the house comment I stopped doing it I really dont want to hit the kids even though they are evil. No its not anywhere near as strong as a 22 cal rifle. And I don't really want a real gun. I served in the marines for 8 yrs and I have plenty of those. This is just for fun. Im taking it to the military range this weekend and trying its didtance.

I get it, I understand.  I find warm beer, and being connected with warm beer, to be offensive.  You need to write an official letter of apology and deliver it to the Canadian embassy in your area.

That would be easier than sorting out this thread, so consider it done.  ;D

Men who drink warm beer deserve to be shot while answering their doorbell.

What if the store was out of cold beer?  Sometimes I drink warm beer simply because I can't get it cold fast enough.
