I take it you can do this every week for a possibility of mulitple prizes or once you've won, then you're no longer qualified? Either way, free is good and I'll take what I can get. ;D
-
I was wondering about the same thing. If I win this week's prize with the book and the coins and smartstrip will I still be eligable for some of the better prizes that are sure to come along? Not that the book, coins and smartstrip aren't cool but I'm sure some of the prizes coming up are going to be sweeter than sweet!

This is the place to discuss all things about the 2004 Holiday Giveaway on BYOAC. Please keep the additional threads on this topic to a minimum. Thanks!
-
Ah did not see this when I posted in the other thread....
Is this giveaway open to non BYOAC members?
-
Like a cocktail kit to be given away on Christmas day? Thanks for replying.. I was beginning to think maybe I was the only one that didn't know. ;D
-

I would hope not, since it is after all the BYOAC[/i] 2004 Holiday Giveaway.
-
hey i thought we were supposed to be "giving" year round, just not at christmas! ;D so.....give away prizes every week of every year! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!.....it is FREE right? :D
-
will there be a 2005 BYOAC official calendar??? :o im offering pictures of myself for the front cover. ill even autograph it for you.
-
Can we enter >1x /day? /week?
-
What are the guidelines for # of entries per person per day/week/etc.?
-
Do we need to re-enter each week?
-
Saint does state that you need to send an email with "the current prize in the subject line." THat would mean you have to re-enter for each different drawing. I'm sure there will be drawings that some people will not want to enter because they already have the prize being given away. I don't want to see winners of these prizes turning around and selling them on Ebay.
PLEASE DON'T ENTER FOR CONTESTS THAT YOU dON'T PLAN ON KEEPING THE PRiZE IF YOU WIN!!!
It just doesn't seem right for those that really need the prize.
-
Nice catch on the current prize/subject line thing. Duh on my account.
I don't wanna send 1,000 e-mails each day, but what about 1x/day? Is that gonna invalidate all entries, etc.? Let's be sure we're all on the same playing field here...
-
From the bottom of the page...
"...Your name, address, and phone number are necessary to prevent multiple emailings..."
My guess, only my guess, is its once per week.
-
* I will not be collecting your personal information. Your name, address, and phone number are necessary to prevent multiple emailings and to pass on to the sponsor whose prize you win. Once I've done that, I'll throw it away.
I'm guessing from the "to prevent muliple emailings" means one email per week
-
Nice catch to you, too :)
There we have it then. May the best retro-gamer win!
-
Still no reply on my question. ???

Yeah, sorry I asked my question like 2 hours before the official thread. ;D This should be locked to keep down the confusion.
-
I'm sure every contest will be considered seperate, so if you win one you'll still be eligible for the others. As long as you enter the other contests.
-
I'm at work, so I'll update when I get home. In brief though:
1 email per person per drawing please. Multiples are DQ'ed. No one has been DQ'ed so far. I have deleted some multiple emails though, and DQ's are possible.
You are eligible for multiple prizes. If you win 2 however, you're done.
Each drawing requires a new email.
There are 203 entries so far.
Please do not expect a response to emails sent to the contest address.
Thanks!
--- saint

Sorry, y'all, I merge the topics, but did it backwards. Still works, though.
-
Also Saint is being fair and impartial so BYOAC staff aren't eligible to win prizes... :'(

That's actually pretty cool. Hopefully you guys will get yours for maintaining and regulating this great place.

Probably get the same thing as last year: a (small) bag of coal, and double the monthly whipping @ the post. That's right, a whipping. With a whip. Keeps us in line.
Oh, Mr Saint Clair! Didn't see you there! Telling trade secrets? Um....
*runs for his life*

I noticed it said we needed to send in our name, phone number and adress, but are we supposed to put our login in the e-mail too?

Just send in what it asked for and remember to include this week's prize(s) in the subject line of the email. Also please limit the entries to 1 per week. I don't think Saint wants to disqualify anybody but I'm sure he would if he has to...
-
Opps... I thought the second one came up today...
And registered twice.. ::)
So am I disqualified for life? :'( Or get double the chance? :D
-
40 lashes with a wet noodle...
I'll fix it :)

I never win anything good (seriously, not just saying that), but for the hell of it I'll enter anyway.

Well, the coolest thing I won was when Taco Bell and Microsoft had the XBOX contest. Of course, my wife still mentions how I made us go there every day for almost 2 weeks.
But I did get a new XBOX delivered on Christmas Eve that year. ;D
-
Let's see, things I've won or gotten free... Well, I won a whole dollar on Gamesville once, and got a free copy of FF11 for PS2 since I was in the beta, but I hate MMORPG's. That's about it. Kinda funny, but I have suck luck.
-
Wow....a free kit given away on Christmas day? I'm gonna be so happy when I win that ;)
Great holiday giveaway!
If the sponsors are checking out this post, thanks a ton(even if I dont win)! Very very generous of you all to support the community and just have fun with the holiday season :)

At a charity pro wrestling event a few years ago I entered the raffle because the top prize was Red Sox tickets, plus the $25 I gave them would go to an MD charity. I didn't win the Sox tickets, which were second prize, instead I won the grand prize which was a trash barrell autographed by all of the performers. I had to sit there with a ---smurfing--- trash barrell for two hours while every 12 year old in the building came up to me individually and tried to con me out of it. It's still sitting there in my basement. What the hell do you do with an autographed trash barrell?
-

eBay? ;)

Maybe I missed it but where are the winners of last night's drawing? ???
-G
-
Front page news :)
------------------------
Congratulations to Heath Hunter and Chris Greiner for winning the drawing! They will each receive an autographed copy of Project Arcade, 25 BYOAC tokens, and a Smart Strip power strip from Bits Limited!
The next drawing starts now! There are two prizes being given away - a custom marquee by emdkay.net. Also, one (but not both!) of the winners will receive a Smart Strip power strip from Bits Limited as well! :) Visit here for details and to enter!
----------
My Internet connection died last night at 11 PM Eastern (of course!) so I wasn't able to put the winners up until this morning.
-
Nice. I probably should have scrolled down a bit further. Thanks saint!

eBay? ;)
Wouldn't want to bother with the hassle of shipping a trash can.
-
Are you kidding???
You know how much you can make for shipping a trashcan???
Youll be sitting pretty even if you only get 9.99 for the can... 10 bucks + 75 for shipping...
-
eBay? ;)
Wouldn't want to bother with the hassle of shipping a trash can.
But now you're saddled with a trash can you don't use. It's taking up valuable real estate space, which could be used for your games. Toss it up, see what it gets. You get big bucks, spend it on the ArcadeVGA. You don't, you get the space on your floor back. Either way, it's win-win.
Unless having a useless trashcan around the house is something you crave, of course...

Stop being all logical and stuff. It makes my head hurt. :P
I may just give it away, the only big names on them aren't household names like the WWE guys are. The biggest are Low Ki and Ron Killings, IIRC.
-
OH DUDE! Low Ki is the one I was LOOKING FOR! And to think, you got it on the PERFECT augograph holder - a trash can! How much do yo......wait a minute, I don't watch or care about wrestling ;) ;D
Did you see if you could trade the winner of the Sox tickets? Mebbe it was some kid who would have preferred the trash can!
-

Heh, that's not a bad idea but I did not. I wanted to actually watch the show. I did offer it back to the promoter so he could auction it off for the fund, but he said they just didn't have space in the show format to do it.
-
That's a crackup. A girl friend of mine just moved to Louisville, KY so that she could get into the beginner class at Ohio Valley Wrestling, which is the developmental company for the WWE. She has met quite a few of what I would classify as the lower end wrestlers, and even one or two of the big guys like John "Bradshaw" Layfield who does, of all things, financial analysis on CNBC on his off days.
It's not for me, but it's something she really wanted to do, and I admire her for picking up and moving there to go after her dreams.
Okay, now I've really gotten off topic... :P
-
Wow this contest is amazing
such GREAT prizes and great odds.
Not to say that this website isn't good, but with maybe a max of 500 entries because it's such a niche hobby, and if Saint sees to no duplicates, everyone has a very fair chance of winning. It reminds me of some kind of small carnival-raffle and that's so cool.
-
So have any winners been picked yet?
-
Yes. Winners are announced on the news page which can be reached at www.arcadecontrols.com (http://www.arcadecontrols.com).
-
The coolest (and only) thing I ever won, I won at Chuck E. Cheese when I was about 12. They used to do "Teen Night" once in a while, it was like $10.00 to get in, with free games, pizza, and soda for a few hours. The first time I ever went, they had a raffle. We all put our names in the box and forgot about it. A couple hours later, we were camped out on the Frogger cocktail, with a giant pile of paper plates, napkins, soda cups, and pizza crusts covering everyplace but the screen, when this dude wandered by. My buddy said "Dude, that guy was calling your name!". I was sure my mother had them paging me because she was gonna pick me up early or some crap like that, I had totally forgotten the raffle. I chased dude down, and he told me I won. I asked him which prize, figuring on a stuffed Chuck E. Rat doll or something. But instead, it was the Donkey Kong Jr. cocktail sitting right next to the Frogger I was on!
And that's the story of how I got my frist cab. Nope, I don't still have it- wish I did, though.
-
OMG that must have been the coolest freaking prize ever. If I was 12 and won an arcade machine without even realizing you won a big contest I would have been blown away. How was it? Was it a used one since they were giving it away... Did you play it a lot?
Man I need to make a cocktail
-
Hmmm, probably the best thing I ever won was off a Radio contest when I was about 16. When they played these 'touch tones' on what was then Q107 you had to be the 7th caller. This was when Bush was running against like Dukakis so in addition to the normal prize of $107 cash I won the election day survival kit which was a case (24-48) sodas and a couple of pizzas from Jerrys. Needless to say I was pretty excited.
Then in college I went to a comedy club and won a pair of tickets to Adams Family 2 the nite before it opened...that was pretty cool.

I hope you were you able to set it up in the bathroom...probably spent the following two weeks there!
;D

I was pretty pumped, I can tell you. Didn't sleep at all that night, waiting for it to be delivered the next day. Sure, it was used, but who cares? And yes, or course I played it a lot. My friends and I all got where we could get to like the 8th Mario's Hideout or something like that, and eventually got tired of it. Then it sat in my room for years. I finally sold it after the monitor lost it's red and blue signal, back then I didn't know anything about fixing arcade machines. Now I wish I had one again...
-
Yeah I suppose it really is impractical to buy a single arcade game unless you truly love it for collector's reasons
-
Yeah I suppose it really is impractical to buy a single arcade game unless you truly love it for collector's reasons
I buy the ones that I not only loved when I was younger but ones that are not easily emulated in MAME for some reason. For example, I have a Pole Position II which is emulated in MAME but it feels much more realistic with the real controls from Pole Position II and I have a Tekken 2 which I don't think works quite right in MAME yet, and the Tekken series was one of me and my friend's favorites. I also have a Time Soldiers which has those rotary joysticks so that it would be hard to play in MAME.
-
Ya I think we're gonna have to wait a few (10 or more even) years before all or some of the newer games are emulated perfectly.
However, waiting 10 years for a Tekken 4 emulation isn't viable since a PS2 port is arcade perfect EXCEPT for the fact where it's made for a PS2 and not an arcade...so I'm debating whether or not making my arcade cab PS2 and mame but maybe I'll just settle with an arcade joystick
-
fill it with trash then ship it, alteast they wont win an empty item. advertise it like this: "Winning bidder will receive the can with 136 items added as a free gift from me to you for winning"

Low Ki is a ---tallywhacker--- in real life. Ron Killings is cool although he is better on the mic than he is in the ring IMHO.
BTW, I'm an independant wrestler.
When I was 12, back in 92 for all the old school gamers, I entered a trick for Spy Hunter for the NES into GamePro. Well I won a stack of six NES games. I was so damned happy.
The trick started you out with all weapons at the beginning of the game. Simple, if I recall correctly. Hold right, select, A, B, and press start at the opening screen . :)

Slap me if I am blind but are the winners of each drawing being posted somewhere?
-
You gotta visit the MAIN main page. It's listed with all the new projects entered into the "archives"
You'll have to scroll down to see all of 'em, but they're all listed on there.
Oh, and:
-
I'm seeing winner notifications closer than 7 days apart. Are there two a week now?
-
I quote from the 2004 Holiday Giveaway! (http://arcadecontrols.com/2004-giveaway.shtml) page:
This would not be possible of course without the very kind generosity of our sponsors, so here's a big thank you to them! In fact, they were so generous that we have a slight problem... There are more prizes to give away than there are weeks left, so . . . we will be giving away at least 2 prizes each week! There are somewhere around 34 prizes in total being given away!
-
I thought that meant two winners each week at the same time for the same things. Sorry, I misinterpreted what that meant.
-
I wonder how many people are entering each contest on average...I'd like to know what the odds of winning are. :)
-
As for the exact odds I have no idea but I think there is like 6100 or so registered members of this board. I have no idea how many of those are entering (or even still active here) but even if everyone entered (except Saint of course), those odds still aren't too bad at all in my honest opinion.
-
Just checked and saw that the contest page had been hit 1284 this week. That could give you some indication of the odds for the week so far ;D
