Title: Any draw backs to using the Mini Pac for a first build?
Post by: j1345 on April 21, 2015, 04:32:41 pm
Hi,

I'm hooking up 2 joysticks, 16 buttons and 2 player buttons...

Any draw backs to getting the Mini Pac instead of the Ipac II?  (The Ipac II is out of stock)

Thanks!

None at all! As long as you're fine with the headers over the screw terminals.

Have you looked at other ipac2 such as the VE edition?  Should be OK for regular setups.

For that large amount of buttons I wouldn't recommend it. Remember each direction (P1 up, P1 down, etc) is a button as well. I have the mini on a 2 player arcade with 6 buttons per player, two sticks, two coin buttons, two start buttons, and escape. It was hard to avoid using buttons that Windows uses for other functions/shortcuts like Q, Esc, space, etc.  You're kinda limited!

Should work perfectly. I'm using a Minipac in that same type of setup, in addition to a trackball and spinner. I'm also powering some LED start buttons on my cab with it too. It's a handy little device :)

Can you post some picts on how you hooked up the power to power up the LED?  Didn't know the minpac could power up the LEDs?  Can you list why type of LEDs you use in your set up also.  Would like to follow your set up.  I was going to settle with non LED lights as the powering them up was over my head.  LOL

I only used it to power the volcano switches on my Rolling Thunder control panel. The minipac flashes the LED's for the Atari games that used blinking start switches, like Missile Command, Dug Dug, etc.

Are they working (drawing power) via the usb connection only? Or do you have another power source connected?
