I build a cocktail cab over the holidays. Need to go in today and mount a few buttons and want this to be the last time I open it back up for now. I have the joysticks set up as 8 way now, thinking about changing over to 4 way. Kids mostly play Ms Pacman but are there any games on the Veritical boards the need the 8 way config?

I found that normal 4-way games are next to impossible to play with the sticks set in 8-way mode.
8-way games will not work AT ALL with the sticks set in 4-way mode.
See my review in the reviews section for more info.

With those xxx in 1 boards, you've got to think about the games that most important to you and
Figure which way to go, 4 or 8 way. Personally to me, I'd prefer having proper play for the many 4-way vertical games.
You're best off with physically restricted joysticks too, rather than happs with flipped actuators.

Why not pop Ultimarc Servo Sticks in there, set them up for "Hardware mode" and then simply press 2 buttons down on the control panel to switch between 4 and 8 way?

+1 for ServoStiks

If pac-man and other 4-way games are your target just put the sticks in 4-way mode and leave them. Most likely no-one will even notice. But if you put them in 8-way they will notice that the 4-ways don't play right. There's already enough lag on the 412-in-1 pac-man to make you nuts as it is without throwing an 8-way stick on there. A servo-stick would be nice but they're all little pricey and don't you need to add 2 more buttons (or a toggle) to your control panel? So if you're almost done that would add a lot more work.

Not really too hard to add a toggle switch. Maybe even hide it inside the coin door.

Im gonna try the 4 way mode.. Maybe change out to the SANWAS with the balls. Kids are used to playing on my fathers MS Pacman machine and are complaining about the different top..

While the Sanwa is not the greatest 4 way stick, it's pretty darn good.
And you can always modify it like the omni2 so you can reach under and change to 8 way if desired or add the servo stik kit in the future.
