Title: Noob wiring question (power)
Post by: VoltaTom on November 07, 2013, 06:42:00 pm
I need some help as I don't know much about wiring other than for a control panel. Just yesterday I shorted my smart power strip making it garbage... Needless to say I need help and advice.

What I want to know is can I wire this cheap power strip to the power socket with the switch in between. The socket and switch will be on the back of my bartop.

Is it even possible? Am I missing something?

good day.

Awesome thanks. That makes it very simple!

Is it possible to have use push button instead of the switch?

Is it possible to have use push button instead of the switch?

The rocker switch (master power switch for cab) is separate from the momentary pushbutton. (computer motherboard switch)

I've got to get a cooler switch then! Wanted to use an arcade button but don't need to turn on a computer, just power.

There are threads like this one (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,128892.0.html) that show how to make your own smart strip using a relay.

You could use an arcade pushbutton to apply power to the relay.

I've seen that thread before, it is pretty cool!

It would be awesome to be able to make one of those but I'm afraid it is beyond my (limited) electrical skills.

Just curious, VoltaTom, but where did you find that three-outlet power strip? I've been looking for something similar, but can only find four-outlet types.

I purchased that stellar piece of equipment from the dollar store. Dollarama here in Canada. Cost me $2 - which is why I went ahead and cut it up to check it out.

Ah ha. Thanks. Will have to poke around the 'ole Dollar Tree/Store/Family then. Harbor Freight only had the a-four-mentioned strip.  :lol

That four-outlet strip was $3 from Dollarama. I didn't spring for the fourth outlet as it was green (for under Xmas trees) and expensive....  :P
