Title: Fingers crossed - now with extra arcade pr0n
Post by: drawfull on August 29, 2011, 04:05:26 pm
I have been offered the machine below. It is pricey. It is mint condition. I had hoped to have confirm by tonight that it's going to be mine, but it's a Bank Holiday here and I am impatient. Yesterday, I got an email about it, mentally dismissed due to price. Then I got the pictures. OMG. OMG.

I just hope I get it. For so long I have searched and searched. I have turned down machines a quarter of this one's price. But I have never, ever felt, the same as I did when these landed in my inbox.

For 2,304 credits......I'm in shock how clean that is.   :o

Really? I think 2304 credits is nothing, is it a lot? And it's home use only. Atari employee to Atari employee and well, I'll be the third owner.

Amazing.  If that's all original, it's probably the best specimen out there of it's kind.

What's "pricey"?

:dunno What am I supposed to do? I have plenty of room, it's just not really room for cabs.

It's all original. It's going to set me back about  :censored:  ;)

Man that's a nice cab.  Would love to be able to have that.  Maybe one of these days when money's not such a big issue I can afford one that's just 1/3rd as nice.

I don't care for SW, but that is a dead minty Cock(r)pit. They are....well were at one time....one of the most coveted games out there. I'm not surprised that its spendy.

My question:  The play count is low but does the vector monitor have an age limited lifespan?  Could you buy this thing and still have the monitor die on you soon?  Or are they in good shape if old but not used much?

I think it's awesome but I would be upset if I spent big cash for the best one out there and still had to hope a big, hard to replace part didn't break.
Title: Re: Fingers crossed
Post by: drawfull on August 30, 2011, 12:42:30 pm
I have asked (not the seller) the question. My gut feeling is caps don't die unless they're used (for example). And the seller maintains his games meticulously. But the monitor is my only concern (I have spare board sets). It's possible the seller has spare monitors, so I will ask just in case.

The latter. Haha. Not embarrassed really. I looked into every thread here and at KLOV I could find where prices for these were being discussed. If more is better, I win.  :-\

I'll post a list of everything I am getting with pics later today. I guess people will do their own maths.

Caps can go leaky with lack of use just as often as they can get dried out with lots of use. As long as the machine was not left on 24/7 it should be ok. If it was powered up for a few mins at least once a year it should be ok.
Title: Re: Fingers crossed
Post by: TopJimmyCooks on August 30, 2011, 01:58:00 pm
I wouldn't be embarrassed about paying a price.  It is a rare, desirable piece in beautiful original survivor condition, with known provenance, that is for sale and accessible to you.  Under those circumstances, it's hard to compare prices with prior sales.  If you're happy with the $, that's what it's worth.

All those klov guys, no matter what you paid they want to gloat about how you got ripped.  I posted (here) how much I paid for a beat down pinball, and how much I've paid to fix it up, and I know I've got $ into it I will never get back out of it.  I don't give a flying **** if somebody wouldn't have done the same, (not that anybody chimed in, here), it's my first/only pinball and the game and the experience are worth it to ME.

So unless you're putting it on a credit card or taking food out of your family's mouths or something . . . may the force be with you. :droid :droid :droid

@Mikezilla: Will do!

I know what you mean TJC, but I am actually getting a lot more than just the SW. I don't care what people think to a point, but then I just wanted to show that I'd been offered something amazing. And I am chuffed to bits. I will post the other arcade pr0n later. I don't want to jump the gun. ;)

Boardjunkie: Thanks, I think it will be fine, based on what I know and what you've said. See there, that's the kiss of death haha.

Not in someone's house FFS!

Yup, and while they will be in my house, the plan is that that what my house is for. I totally agree.

They are too good and I am working on things to make sure they are available to everyone. Without touching lol.

Am working on it tho, don't you worry. (and until two days ago I wasn't but I am not stupid) erm. ;D

I was just thinking (day dreaming really) about a brand NIB Robotron. I've seen them pop up before over the past few years. Verticals, now a cocktail. Whats up with that, how did they survive 30 effin' years of no one tearing that open and gettin' their robo on?

I cannot understand that one... Would love to have it though. Have to admit I wouldn't be able to survive a day without playing it.

How much would a Star Wars cockpit go for?  Someone posted one on Craigslist here recently.  It looks to be in decent shape.  I'm just wondering what the going rate for this with all the interest.  I kinda keep an eye on arcade postings, but haven't really got in to buying or working with real arcade games (not enough room and enjoy building).

Hey, I was asked not to say where they were from, but the deal is done, so I guess it doesn't matter. I was careful with which pics I posted, some were watermarked, I left them out. Nowhere did I say in this thread it was a secret, I just didn't say. It certainly wasn't that I thought people would jump in and try and get 'em. I didn't want to lose them by p-ing the seller off.

I don't really see WHY it matters where they are from anyway.  :dunno

If people know the seller, they know he is thinning his collection. But all that aside, I still don't see why people should post names on a forum, even if it is just the first one

That said, sorry for having a fit yesterday, it had been a long day.

It's easy to keep things in stellar shape. It's hard for people to do those things. In some cases, it gives a kind of rise to know you have something tucked away that hasn't seen the light of day. (Hehr-hehr hehr-hehr hehr-hehr......)

I did quite a bit of looking over a few hours to see where the prices were falling - I think it's earlier in this thread. I ended up feeling you can pay anything even with wildly different condition. The cockpit to me is my holy grail cab, I removed it from my signature wants as I specified UK and gave up getting a good one some time ago. I guess it depends on what you're comfortable with and how much you wnt it. FYI I just googled "star wars cockpit arcade price" and variants on that.

Can anyone with a better idea of space help with this please? Room on right is currently living room, room on left, currently nothing (future cinema room). Think will move tv etc into nothing room, but still have a few machines to find a home for. Sketchup images attached if anyone is good at this kind of thing. I do have a garage, but ideally don't want to use it. Room on left is available for games but then need home for everything in there. The two rooms that are shown are all that are available.

Where no walls are shown where there obviously would be, there are walls, where the blue stuff is, is glass. Room on left is two walls and two glass. Should be obvious which two are which :D

Any constructive ideas muchos gracias

I see now, you are DEFINITELY running out of room. Put the Gauntlet under the stairs, and all the cocktail tables in the bar, so you can have a cocktail bar (get it :laugh2:). Seriously, you have a TON of cocktails (2 Joust cocktails? WTF?)... You don't need those windows, they're taking up valuable space. ;D Seriously, you might need to sell some ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

have you tried using 7zip? it's got several different compression engines and does a very good job at picking the best one for any given segment of data (works wonders with roms, particularly if you've got multiple versions of the same one).

Can anyone with a better idea of space help with this please?

It'd be easier for you to just get rid of them all and put a MAME machine in the center of the room since it would play them all without the space restrictions.  :P ;)

Who needs windows in an arcade?  :P ;)

Wouldn't you want the Star Wars cockpit turned around so someone can watch the game from the outside. Cockpit might fit best under the stairs.

Do you need multiples of games in the same room?

Games with favorite art , I'd put against glass so can see from other side.

Maybe try walkway between aisles in center of room rather than one end. Work from ends of room toward center?

Taito and one next to it go back to back with the row behind the Taito. Gaunlet in the corner where Space Invaders is., slightly angled to give more room to players. SI goes where Cockpit is.

Problem is where to put all the cocktails.
