Figured I just share this...but the Dr.Frankenstein in me had to get loose during the weekend.
My cab is basiclly a Mame cab/jukebox...So far as for sound issues, the only problems Ive had sound wise was that I had to replace a crappy 2.1 speaker setup a few month back. At the time I went during Thanksgiving and bought a Gigaware 2.1 system.( retail price $60 but I got on sale half price.) It sounds great....buttttt....
During this past weekend, My wife had me doing the honeydew list and I realized that we dont really use our home theatre unit in our living room. So i took it down and that was when the mad doctor took over and said "Hey....lets put this in the cab...."
This is the unit I have...
Sharp SD-AT1000 600 Watt Home Theater Audio System
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31P9TDSK3WL._SS500_.jpg)
I then proceeded to take the massive 600 watts of pure energy and i placed it in my cab...
(wish I had my camera, but its broke....)
The subwoofer and my PC alone filled up the bottom of my cab, so i decided to install a shelf underneath my keyboard so that the unit can sit . I had to go to Radio Crap and I had to buy a 3.5 to RCA cable splitter.
and a 3.5 splitter
(http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31kUKTc-4SL._SS500_.jpg)
The 3.5 splitter is hooked to the back of the PC...This allows me to have my regular 2.1 PC speakers hooked up and also I can hook up the surround sound unit. Using the 3.5/RCA splitter, I hook the RCAs to the back of the surround sound unit and the 3.5 plugs into the extra hookup on the 3.5 splitter...

"Are you with me, Camera guy?"
Now...with me doing this...It will allow me to have whatever music/noise/whatever to be played out through both my PC speakers and also my surround sound unit.
I turned it up and words cant explain how I felt...

It was so loud that the cabinets in the room were rattling open...

With this setup, I now have the jukebox that i always wanted out of my mame cab...
And when friends come over I can blow them away with the sound quality...and when they leave I can go back to the usual setup.
Only downside is that I have to manually open the cab and turn the unit on. I wish i could somehow mount an on/off volume control on the cab. But I know that if needed I can take it out of the cab incase i miss it being in the living room.
I was so happy, I told my wife and she looked at me like "whatever"....
I had to express my happiness to my BYOAC family...

Very nice, but since we are addressing noobs - please don't use an X-arcade as your control panel...

Awesome!
It reminds me of when we were in my neighbors house and he was showing me something on his pc (he always has had it hooked up to his living room tv).. and then I looked around and asked, "hey where's your pc?" Then I realized he had taken it out of the tower and placed it into a case that looked like a piece of audio equipment. I thought it was so great, and he said, "See finally some appreciation".

Same thing happened to me when I recapped a monitor recently. My first successful attempt, and it worked perfectly. I was so proud, I had to show her. She blankly stared as if I were pointing at some field of wheat or something. :banghead: :banghead:

Sounds like when I was trying to show my wife how much better one video cable is over another. Back when we got our first TV with S-video, I was all, "Ooooo, ahhhh!" and she was like, "WTF is the difference?" Now I try to show her how our HDMI is better than anything else on our TV and quickly learn not to bother.
At least she hates pan and scan, though. ;D

That's not worse. Not by a long shot.

They had a tumultuous end, but their products were top notch.

Good stuff! Nothing like dropping a full stereo with amp and surround speakers in an arcade cab! Lots of the guys doing dedicated jukeboxes seem to do that, but not so much with arcade cabs.
Sounds like you need need to get a smart strip to power up everything with one shot, though.

Well, that's true...I've had the thing for 5-6 years now, and it's still perfect...

Already have one installed...(The problem is that the stereo doesnt have that auto on system (say power goes out...i have to turn it on manually) It doesnt bother me...I still have regular speakers...which is fine...just that if I want that extra "HOLY &^%$!" Ive got it...
I cant stop laughing at the x-arcade comments... :laugh2:
Ginsu...the wife comments...I'm starting to agree...
It sucks, because nobody around me knows what i am doing...or care to... I think the only one that cares is the cat...(She sits and watches) LOL
-
At least your cat just watches... mine steals wires, zip ties, etc. and takes off with them. :hissy:

He's collecting supplies to build his own cab. You just haven't found his stash yet. ;)

That's not the Hallmark Galaga ornament. That's a working Galaga.
