31   Arcade1Up & Similar / Any word on July 9th?on Yesterday at 06:05:26 pm

Before I pulled the trigger on getting into A1U and ordering a couple cabs (couldn't pass up the price at Walmart-  Note, not all Walmarts have the same prices, even online!)  I watched a TON of videos.   One of them mentioned an event happening July 9th and said there were going to be units at "greatly reduced prices".  It's some sort of charity event if I recall, but they will also have the reduced price cabs listed on their site (supposedly).

Anyway,  does anyone know anything as far as what is going to be offered and what time they will be listed?  I work weekends 3rd shift and sleep during the day, but kinda don't want to miss this.

Hi Calamity, I did some more testing with official mame this time setting lowlatency 1. I didn't measure any change at first. However when I also change
"video auto" to "video d3d9ex" then I get the same as groovymame (of course without the "frame delay" improvement).

Is that expected? Does "video auto" in mame default to bgfx and is bgfx a frame slower than d3d9ex? I tested setting "video bgfx" and it measures the same as auto:

Here is the updated measurements:

SUPER STREET FIGHTER 2
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 0: 6 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 1: 6 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO BGFX, LOWLATENCY 1: 6 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO D3D9EX, LOWLATENCY 1: 5 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with DEFAULTS: 5 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with FRAMEDELAY 6: 4 FRAMES (Same as PCB)

BUBBLE MEMORIES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 0: 4 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 1: 4 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO BGFX, LOWLATENCY 1: 4 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO D3D9EX, LOWLATENCY 1: 3 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with DEFAULTS: 3 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with FRAMEDELAY 6: 2 FRAMES (Same as PCB)

METAL SLUG
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 0: 7 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 1: 7 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO BGFX, LOWLATENCY 1: 7 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO D3D9EX, LOWLATENCY 1: 6 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with DEFAULTS: 6 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with FRAMEDELAY 6: 6 FRAMES (no improvement? I'll record this one again) (MVS PCB is 5 Frames)

JACKAL
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 0: 6 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 1: 5 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO BGFX, LOWLATENCY 1: 5 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO D3D9EX, LOWLATENCY 1: 4 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with DEFAULTS: 4 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with FRAMEDELAY 6: 3 FRAMES (this is faster than the PCB and MISTER...) (PCB is 4 frames. A Pi running this game through a Pi2Jamma is 9 Frames).

BAD DUDES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 0: 4 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO AUTO, LOWLATENCY 1: 4 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO BGFX, LOWLATENCY 1: 4 FRAMES
MAME: VIDEO D3D9EX, LOWLATENCY 1: 3 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with DEFAULTS: 3 FRAMES
GROOVYMAME with FRAMEDELAY 6: 2 FRAMES (PCB is 1 frame.)

I can post the video captures if interested.

Thanks LeapinLew.  I actually did find that video but it said something about only working with Gen 1 units?

My 'big guy' has a full set of games, pretty much you name it and the console and it's there.  I know I'll end up modding these guys too, but for now I just plan on new sticks and buttons and bigger monitor.  I just got my two and have to set them up.  I went ahead and ordered upgrade springs for the Mortal Combat (real quick and real inexpensive so figured why not while I figure out exactly what I want to put in them).

(I really doubt it 'feels like a $1000 machine, but hey the springs and gates were less than $10 so I figured why not?)

Hello STL_Tom

I have 3 IONS that all are dead.
I plan to buy intel D945 as you used.
Can you let me know where you put exactly the cables on the motherboard please ?

20+ years in this and hosting parties.  The ONLY requests I have ever gotten are Galaga  and more recently Street Fighter 2.  No one gives a ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about anything else in my experience.

This is true but add Ms. Pac-Man and Frogger.  That's basically all anyone wants to play.

As for console classics - there are too many to list unless you mean the ones that play comfortably on an arcade cabinet and then that list is 0.  It's so subjective anyway you are never going to get people to agree.  Just in the mainline Mario series alone, you list Super Mario Bros. (a GREAT game) but I think that Super Mario World, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Bros. 3, Mario 64 and Super Mario Odyssey are all much better games.  In fact, the most recent game, Super Mario Odyssey, is probably my favorite of all of them.  It's so perfect I can't imagine where they can take the series next to innovate.

Yes, i don't recommend for these systems.

Mednafen for pc-engine, pc-enginecd, supergrafx, pcfx, psx and saturn are the best out there.

Think diversity. For example, no space at home or other socio-economic situation. Many people are in this position.

So how are they accessing this site with no internet. How are they buying an arcade cab if they can't afford a 20 dollar bluetooth speaker.

I have 4 of these units, and their size is the big selling point for me too. Moving them around is super easy and play the stand up cabinets are very much the same feeling as my full size cabinets.

I haven't spent a lot of time trying to reuse the PCB's, but I've seen people upgrading their monitors and keeping the stock PCB's.
