Considering a Mobo upgrade for my mame...AMD Or Intel
« on: October 28, 2009, 11:31:46 pm »
So After having got my Mame cabinet up and running for a while now...its very obvious that I need  a faster processor/mobo.
Given the one in there is a donor P4 2.54ghz so it plays a bunch of the games. However, all kinds of them don't play at all
or are so choppy due to computer speed it makes them very difficult to enjoy. So the question is...for a decent price what is
the best price to performance CPU/MOBO combination I could get without breaking the bank? I don't want to get an I5/I7
or even the upper end of the core 2 duo's.

I've notice that AMD has just released some new processors that look reasonably priced...any thoughts on those?

I can't say much on the subject but from what I've played around with, even a Core 2 3.6ghz with a fast video card can't touch some of the newer 3d systems.

If you can't do a pretty high end Core2 and overclock it to 4ghz or faster, you probably won't be able to play too much more than what you can with that P4 now.

But someone else might have a better head for those numbers than me.

I've personally always been partial to AMD's...  every PC I've built has used them, and I've always been happy with the performance.

I've always used AMD. Definitely more cost effective.

Well my next question would be what should I be paying for a decent overclocking mb/cpu/ram?
That being that I need to OC to 4ghz..

AMD or Intel price?

My question is (and I'm curious why Peale hasn't jumped on this thread yet in the same vein), why did you post this here?

I honestly thought I would be discussing a motherboard/cpu combo that someone had used. However, there is no hardware/computer forum (unless i'm  noobing myself by not seeing it.)...should I have dumped it in main? I'm fine with being moved. Not making any headway atm.
