A new Hyperpin table. Preparation has begun....................
« on: September 27, 2009, 08:49:17 pm »
I've been thinking about this project for a loooooooong time and I have decided to take the first step.  Tonight I purchased the playfield monitor.  The ultimate goal is to have it look similar to BadBoyBills pin.  I can only hope to get it close!  Here is his pin:

Here is the monitor that I bought:

Here is the frontend I plan on running it on:

Please check back in October, 2015 to see the finished product!

I can personally vouch for the picture quality on thw Sharp Aquos range as it is the fluidity of moyion and blending effects that made me have one as my main TV!

Awesome. Can't wait to see what you come up with :)

I really would like to do one at one point. Need to get a load of other things finished first though.

I have a gutted High Speed cabinet that is killing me to do this or build my own pinball game. Good luck with your project. I can't wait until 2015 to see this finished. I wish you the most of luck on this project and you better document good so the rest of us can follow you exactly as a rip off! (Just kidding, unless you do really good!).
Where's my gold star :P

I'm not new when it comes to arcades and consoles emulation, but pinball... is there anything out there that doesn't require a fast CPU and a powerful GPU? Also, something that could support 800x480 (or should I say 480x800 in this case) would be a requirement for my hardware.

I've read a bit on the Future Pinball website, but all the screenshots show a 3D render of a virtual pinball table, not a top-down view of a table (or even an angled top-down view, to be more precise).

Also, what about those solenoids? Do the pinball software support those directly? Via USB, parallel port? Is there special boards for this, similar to a Led Wizard?

Looky what came in the mail today.  I ordered this on September 28 and it finally came today.  I didn't hear from them when I first ordered, and after two weeks I sought them out.  I will say, Foley answered the emails almost instantly.  The guy I talked with on the phone was very polite and said that they had to start production up again, causing a short term backlog.  I was very nervous to order from them, but I will say the product is as advertised.

Without further ado, here is the Pinball Wizard from Nanotech:

Nice! How much did it set you back if you don't mind me asking?

I don't know much about that controller. IIRC it has a built in accelerometer or something to sense nudges?

Did you think about using the U-HID G instead? I've not seen any reviews of it yet.

Are you planning on using it as it is or are you going to decase it and mount the components inside the table?

It was $293 shipped.  Pretty expensive, but for an all in one solution, I'll take it.  Maybe a couple years ago I would have started from scratch, but with the kids and work, I have to cheat a little.  I didn't think about the U-HID G to be honest.  I am going to make a full sized table.

Any update on this?

I can't access the hyperpin forum right now so I can't see what you are basing your pin off of.

Will you be using an existing pinball cab? If so how well does the 40" lcd fit? Will you have to remove the bezel or will you need to leave it on to eliminate any gaps?

If you are building your own cab, what are the dimensions and do you have plans for it that you would be willing to post?

What's your plans for the secondary display and dmd?

Hi guys!  Sorry for the long delay, I just had to wait for some school things to shake out.  Now, we are rocking.  I started a club after school for kids interested in doing this type of thing and today we started.  Very exciting.  We decased the 40" monitor today and I will attach the only pics we took today.  Everything is in except the widebody holddown bar.  It's ordered, just waiting on delivery.

Glad to see this is still going, and I am anxious to see how it progresses.  I, too, would love to build one of these.  Maybe someday.  :hissy:

Go Bucks!  The Big Ten did well this year.

At school, we went over how to do basic problem solving.  This started with discussing how to hold the playfield up.  I noticed that when we decased it that there were four stand offs that really went to nothing.  I told the kids that we should use those as backbone supports and to design a bracket to hold it up.  Here is what we did:

1.  We measured out where the stand offs were on the back, where we needed them to be on the brackets, and drew a rough drawing.

2.  I demonstrated to them how to draw the plans up in the cnc program and how to cut them out.

3.  We then installed them on the back.  This process took around 2 hours total from start to finish.

Two nights ago the computer came to life!  Today, the students got all three monitors working at the same time!  Very exciting!  More pics to come.  BTW, here is the link to the NVidia GeForce drivers that they recommend to get the dmd monitor to play nice:
NVidia Drivers from their website

Tomorrow we continue to tackle the cabinet! :dizzy:
