Happ Comp joystiq problem?
« on: April 23, 2009, 10:07:50 am »
Hello, I have read through many guides and walkthroughs and could not find an answer to my question.

Anyway heres my "problem" (not sure if it is.) I just recently bought 2 Happ Comp Sticks from GGG a black one and a blue one.

When pre-building them the black sticks shaft (or the stick itself) goes through the "box" of the joystick without any force or push whatsoever.

Now when I tried this with the blue stick it gets stuck right at the top of the box, It will not go through the box.

This is my first build but I have spent about a month an a half researching and planning on my mame cab and cannot find a this problem, I did find a stick not going through an actuator but i don't have that problem.

I am unfamiliar with the durability of the stick and don't want to force it in if I don't have to.

So if my blue stick faulty? or my black one loose?
Should I pound and push it in by force?
Maybe lubing it will help? Can I lube it?

Sorry if this is trivial or dumb to ask but I really don't want to break the things or install them incorrectly. Thanks for any help or advice on my problem.

For reference using the Happ mounting and Exploding views part numbers.

The stick is = 95-0193-0X
And the box piece it gets stuck on is = 95-0199-10 i believe that's the problem

I'm not a pro with this, but I've worked with a couple Happ Comp sticks and the IL competition stick when building custom joysticks.

In my experience, the sticks should go through that piece relatively easily. At most, they might need a little pressure and a twist. If it's taking more than that, it would strike me that something was wrong.

Are you using the spacer (95-0194)?

With my IL version of the comp stick, when I used the spacer, the very tip of the stick only made it down so that it was flush with the bottom of the actuator (I think that's what it's called). So, for that one, I had to put a little pressure back on the actuator in order to get the C-clip in there.

But if you're not even getting flush with the bottom, I'd be suspicious that something is up. You can pretty easily remove the screws (43-0139) to get at that plastic piece and take a look to see if there's a burr or something in there that it's getting stuck on. If you, you might be able to file it off with a small round file.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I am using the spacer, i have no problems getting through that, its when I hit the 95-0193 piece where it gets stuck. I have tried twisting it and gently forcing it but it just seems like I'm using way to much force. Especially when on my black stick it just falls right through.

With my blue stick, no it does make it to the bottom, so no it doesn't flush with the actuator. I have looked through the box piece and there seems to be extended edges or plastic that's stopping the stick. The piece just seems smaller. When I pulled the stick out you can see the scuff marks left all around the 95-0193 piece.

I could probably get it in with maybe some type of lube but I'm not sure that would be smart to do.

Again thanks for the reply  :)

I would think that there would be some sort of light white grease that would be suitable for use in a part like that. I just took apart an XBox gamerpad the other day that had some white grease in the joints of the trigger buttons.

I definitely get a certain degree of friction at the end of that plastic sleeve - I don't think my joystick would just "fall through" - but I didn't have to push terribly hard to get it through there.

Should fit right thru.   Have you compared the black and blue sticks?   Maybe they sent you the wrong blue stick.  I assume the blue stick did not come assembled.

Sorry for the late reply.

I did check my two sticks and both were the same.

I tried a light grease and still could not get it through at all. Finally i pulled the thing apart and found out that the part i had original thought, was indeed the problem. That piece was just too fall for the the stick.

Being me though, me and my father came up with a solution. We simply took a drill bit a bit larger and made that hole bigger :) Wrong? probably. Barbaric? yeah. Did it work? YES! :)

I finally got the stick installed and everything is working perfect.

I went ahead and ordered 1 more stick from GGG and I'm hoping I don't have this problem again.

Anyway thanks all for your advice and help, in the end it was just a problem with the little part, which hopefully is the last.
