Mad Planets Mini Cab by Oscar
« on: March 11, 2009, 08:16:28 am »
I don't know too many users by handles here, but I assume Oscar is still around...

There was an old thread about the mini Mad Planets cabinet he built, but his website is just a shell now, and the links are broken.

Does anyone know Oscar?  I would be really interested to see those photos if someone has them, or knows who I can contact to see them...

Don't know that there are any more than that picture though. What's the thread with the original links?

I thought I had bookmarked it, but I hadn't, so I found what I think was the original topic before I started this new thread.

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=27299.0

But I was thinking it said definitely that he did a Mad Planets mini, not just a cabinet of that shape with a Q*Bert theme....

Does that help any?

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

The last time he popped in was back in July '08 and it was brief.

I had seen that it had been awhile, I checked his profile for his activity.  I thought the name sounded familiar, just couldn't think of the new web address off the top of my head.

Thanks for the link.  That was it.....

In his post he references cab13.jpg, cab16.jpg, and cab17.jpg. They aren't on my online mirror. I have a DVD at home I will check to see if I have more pictures.

Awesome.  Thanks.

So....why do you have a mirror of this website?  Was there some connection between BYOAC and his site back in the day?

I have a mirror of a bajillion websites related to this hobby, since they tend to come and go :) This one specifically when he got out of the business he gave me a complete archive. If I ever stop running BYOAC I will 1) turn it over to someone else if someone else is willing to run it, and 2) archive the entire thing on to multiple DVDs and distribute them to several people in case the person I turned it over to ends up not keeping it online.

New management is always an un-easy prospect.

Well, unless I keel over dead anytime soon I have no plans of giving up BYOAC. I go through phases of interest. When I'm really interested in the hobby I put a lot of time in. When I'm not really motivated directly by arcade stuff, I still feel keenly an obligation to keep the site running.  My wife knows that I want BYOAC to go on if I die as well. BYOAC is kind of like having a pet - I brought it into this world, it's my responsibility to care for it until it dies. Death of BYOAC will be defined by no one visiting anymore. So far that doesn't seem to be a danger...
