RANDYT is my hero!!!
« on: March 10, 2009, 10:51:35 am »
LOL....hats off to RandyT from GrooveyGameGear.com

I'm in the process of constructing my coin door on my cab...

I thought long and hard on deciding on either getting a fully functional coin door....( which now days costs over 80 + depending on where you go)... finding a old cheap rusty one and restoring it ( buying parts ) ...or creating a fake one...

I went to GGG and bout the fake door sticker and two of the push button credit buttons ( go to GGG and click on the "coin doors tab")...

They were shipped fast and when I got it ...IT WAS NICE!!!!

I took the sticker and I mounted it on a scrap peice of pexi and placed another piece over it to protect it....I drilled out the mounting holes for the pushbuttons...( same as a regular arcade button)....IT LOOKS AWESOME....

Now all I have to do is route out a square to insert the pexi into...mount the buttons and hook up to my power supply....I'll send pics when I can.... :applaud:

That's an interesting (read "inexpensive"  ;) ) solution to that problem. I like it.

Definitely would like to see pics when you get them!

Here are some pictures of mine installed:

The UAII (my cabinet) is a tad too low for a real coin door/box IMO and this is a cool little compromise.  Plus it's nice to 'insert' coins with your feet while sitting on a barstool.  :P

ahofle....when you wired yours up....the red wire goes to the 5v line....Did you take the black and hook it to the ground...
The instructions say hook it up to a led-wiz...I dont have one nor need one...I figure I would hook it up to the ground...

Also did you "daisy-chain" the wires, or did you hook each indivdual wire to the hot and ground lines?

I wired the LEDs in parallel to the red/black 5V wires from an extra molex in my computer's power supply.  I think I also put in a couple extra resistors as the lights were a bit too bright initially.

And how can someone copyright a picture of an excisting object  :dunno

Randy has some great stuff, but this is not one of them IMHO.

I've an Off Road cab that has a working coin door but also two push buttons for credits on either side of the door.
I never use coins.

ahofle's set up is perfect for a Mame cab.

Heh.  I spent over eight hours meticulously modeling that coin door in 3D, creating textures and lighting effects and then rendering it at high resolution.  If you are implying that you think it's a photograph, I guess I should be flattered.

Regardless, I'm very happy to see that the OP was pleased with the result.  Anyone else who is looking for the special version designed for use with the NovaCDR buttons should state that in the comments box when they place the order.  I've been meaning to get a photo of one and put it on the store as an option, but never seem to get around to it.

Really? That's your answer?

I'm an Ultimarc fanboy, but that thing is just ugly. (And it's backward!)

You did do OK and your happy with it not to mention that your wife and daughter are as well.  That's what matters the most.

It's not a configuration that everyone would choose, but not everyone wants to go through the process of installing and wiring a real coin door.

To each his own but getting a real coin door cheap isn't too difficult.

Photograph or not, it's an image from an existing object, no way you can copyright that. Not that it's important Randy...I value your work (well most of it) very highly :D You know I love the Ice stuff on my Centi :D

Whoa-whoa-whoa, no way that this is a Euro door/mech. I've never seen either on any cab overhere.

Both are Chinese things (or at leas far-east) and from recent date. I don't like them either.

This is a Euro coin-door:

It's on many of my machines. I've seen them on all kind of Euro cabs, Atari, Williams but also generic cabs and even bootlegs.

O, and about that Chinese coin-door: I guess it could be turned around to make it at least turn the right way ?

I think the Patent Doc will likely be correcting you on that one, should he happen across this thread.  You most certainly can copyright any work of art or even a photograph.  The subject is irrelevant.

Maybe it's different on the other side of the pond?

And BTW, technically, if it's a WIlliams, Atari, etc. coin door, it's not a "Euro" coin door ;)
