Newbies First Mame Machine build!

Just a little update on the project. I made a trade with a forum member for the control panel that came with my Sega WS99 cabinet  for a joystick and button kit from X-Gaming which is on its way and should be here in a few days so I can start getting to work on the rough layout of my control panel. So I now have pretty much everything needed to complete the c.p. except for the interface board from X-Gaming and I will be buying a few other controls and buttons from Games001 here in a couple weeks.  :) I can almost smell the cold brews opening on the first Game Night!!
As you guys have read, I have built my own spinner from the article that The Nasty posted here in the BYOAC forum. I went to a local industrial surplus supply house yesterday and bought a 2"diameter by 2" thick piece of solid 6061 aluminum for $1.00 that I am sending out to a good friend who owns a milling lathe and he is going to machine a spinner knob for my hard drive spinner.  I will post pics when that is complete and will add a build / how to section here in the thread for anyone that would like to build their own hard drive spinner as well.
Also there is a local computer shop here that sells USB ball mice for $2.00 a piece that has the perfect size board for interfacing any optical controls that you may have and are perfect for the HDD spinners, so I bought a hand full of those as I decided to build a modular add on optical steering wheel with a homemade shifter that I can attach to my control panel for driving games like Pole Position instead of using my old Thrustmaster Steering wheel.
And I am going to switch out my PS2 mouse board on my trackball and convert it to USB as well.
I will also post pics or maybe some video on how to interface optical arcade controls to mice boards as well.
Thanks for reading along!  :)

I have a question and was wondering if anyone could help me out.
I am going to be needing cabinet art soon and I have a friend in the sign business, and I was wondering if any of you guys know what type of material is used to make back lit marquee's?
Thanks,
Shawn

			Another update,
I went out and got a half sheet of 1/2" MDF and I ordered the X-Arcade interface yesterday and it should be here by this Friday.
Also I will be getting my Plexiglas sheet for my monitor bezel tomorrow.
I will be on vacation next week and will get more pics posted then.

I went to Lowes tonight and got a piece of Plexiglas cut for the monitor bezel and when I set the monitor in it's final place I will mask it off and paint the back side black so it will be nice and shiny on the outside. I can't remember if I mentioned it, but I downloaded DSKnocker and made a knock .wav file for Q-Bert as well as all of the samples for it and now it sounds very authentic!  :applaud: I'm still trying to decide the best way to build my control panel as I keep changing my design ideas every time I look at the cabinet. It seems like when I think I have that great design idea I end up finding a reason that it won't work! :banghead:  It's amazing how time consuming the planning and designing part takes!! I definitely have a lot of respect for you guys that build your cabs from scratch!!  :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
