| << < (3/3) |
| REBIRTH:
There are sellers on Ebay that sell some Pentium 2.4's at about $350 (though with $75 or so shipping), that is with all the components other than a monitor. Here is an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2736609300&category=38115 I'm tempted... |

Lilwolf, Be advised, that 2400XP AMD processor is probably arount a 1.9 GHZ maachine, NOT 2.4 GHZ. Also, I purchase my Mame machine from EZBPC, a Barebone 2000XP with an ASRock Motherboard for $135 shipped to me and I have not had any problems with it. Bought RAM, HD and Video card all new with mail in rebates and waited for sales. Probably spent around $240 for a working tower. Works great and would highly recommend going with that ebayer. hope this helps. |

Trust me... I know about AMD's mhz ratings... And I know that Intel is the one who made them start it... For a long time, Intel was removing optimizations from their chips, to increase the core clock speeds... This made them look like they where faster then they where. People didn't realize this, and where buying more expensive, slower chips.. In almost all speed tests, they are almost the same.... until recently. After Intel came up with the faster memory bandwidth, their chips couldn't hack it... But now they are faster then AMD's per listed clock cycle. They where faster then their slightly older version with the same speed.... BUT... also remember this. in emulation, AMD's have ALWAY's done better per clock cycle (listed... not real) then their intel countparts. Intels do better on 3d games.... but all in all... AMD's are hands down... the best price / performance.... So if moneys no object.. Go Intel If it is... Go AMD If performance / watt or no fan is... Go VIA |

My 400 MHz AMD chugs through most games without a problem. I used it cuz it was free, but it played lots of games that many people complain about having trouble with (like Metal Slug) without a hiccup. |
