Need a faster computer? 2.4xp for 330?

(not my site)...

Seems like a great deal to me...

www.compgeeks.com

HP Pavilion Athlon XP2400+ mini tower, 128mb ddr, 60gb hd, cdrom, modem, firewire, 10/100 eithernet, ac97 audio, video..  $330 (referb)

Only question I would have is if it had a AGP slot to replace the video card... but many wouldn't care for emulation only purposes.

But with a quick search from HP's website.  The pavilion 700 and greater series are the only ones that allow for a 2.4+ processor.  And these seem to all have AGP slots... So it probably (hopefully) does.

Anyone looking for another machine... it might be a great place to start.

I'm considering it for an office machine and let me use my main pc as a pure game machine.

<edit>  Thanks for noticing the mistype

Hi LilWolf,

Might want to change the title (2.4 XP, not 3.4 XP).

Pricewatch has 2.4 XP systems starting at $231 with a smaller HD and not HP, though.

*shrug*  (sorry Rampy)

AGP slot is important.

And I can't get any of these companies to support the price they mention... I've tried 2 so far (so the any is limited)... but they all go to a build your config page... and they end up being about 350.

The other has a bunch of options that you probably don't need... (firewire, pci modem)

but your right... not as good of a deal as I thought..

From what I understand, if you call them, they're supposed to honor Pricewatch's price.  Although Rampy recommends checking resellerratings.com

And I have seen companies selling mobo's for low prices, but then it says OEM (add $10 to make this a retail product with driver CD's etc.)  Which wouldn't be a problem if the drivers were available on the web, but . . .
AlanS17:
I found a particular seller on ebay who has like 15000 good feedback and sells barebones machines for under $100. (By that I mean they never go over $100.) Haven't bought from him, but it looks like a good start for a machine. They come with motherboard, processor, and case in different configurations. I don't care so much about the case, but I suppose you have to get it that way. I have all the extra parts, anyways so maybe I'll do that. The Intel machines are all celerons, but he has AMD setups as well. His name is "ezbpc".
