I feel like 5 year old in chem class. And since trackballs were brought up, what about spinners. I like the small mame one's oscar has, but what should i look for? |

(where as modern sticks on fighters and such are the "bat handle" type, that you see on the supers, competetitions, etc etc) What's your trackball question again? You can get an arcade trackball, and a translucent ball (or replacement ball), and light it up... How big is your control panel going to be (to fit all this stuff)... I was doing a cabinet conversion and there was no way to fit in the standard spacing 2 8-way sticks, 12 player buttons, a 3" trackball with 6.5 x 6.5 mounting plate, an oscar model 3, and a dedicated 4 way stick on the same "classic" sized panel... I ended up needing to "T" out for more real estate. But I digress... Please clarify your trackball question and i'll/we'll try to accomdate with some reasonable answers =P rampy |

I work at Capcom and they'll build cabinates in whatever. You'll also find that arcade operators replace with whatever as well, so there is no standard spec for StreetFighter or your Capcom layout. You'll do fine with an ultimate or competition joystick. Either are good for this application while more people are more passionate about the competition. I find that the notch of the ultimate is fine for me. Our arcade division typically sources sticks presently from happ or imperial and often they are the ultimate style (notchy/square inside.) For buttons, you'll do well with the horizontal pushbutton or the competition button. Don't every buy the ultimate verticle button. It's an older style which were used in some cabinets but it's a hard button that's not as fast as the other two buttons. I'm assuming that you are looking at Happ's site. I have toyed with all of them and I personally think that the competition convex buttons are the best. In Japan they use totally different controls so you know that it's all different. |

I want to build this once and build it right (or as right as possible) I want a 4 player machine with design combination of GSXR's seen here: http://www.runriot.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/arcade/ and this: http://www.arcadeshopper.com/images/mame/mame4plyrcp.jpg I want to play a lot of fighting games, golden tee, and old school pacman. Other things I'm looking at are light guns. I don't want a flight stick or yoke. As far as trackballs, I don't know much about them other than I want a translucent (so it will light up) 3" (im assuming) track ball . The spinner was an after thought after I saw everyone else with one and decided I would probably want it later. |

Ebay, Happcontrols.com, imperial betson (betson.com they also sell refurb 3"ers for 30 beans!), wico, and andy/ultimarc sells 2 1/4" ones... also bob roberts sells some as well... 3" is the golden tee size. 2 1/4" was used in other games like.. uh centipede and uh... other games.... and stuff... the neat thing about 2 1/4" tball is you can replace the ball with a pool/billiards ball... I highly recommend the mounting kit if you are using a wood panel, which it looks like you are... and if you are going for artwork... maybe get the flush mount mounting plate and recess it... you can use high intensity LED's to illuminate your translucent ball... I wouldn't bother with the trackball lamp holder thingie that is sold, I'd just fashion your own... *shrug* rampy |
