Omega Race: What are all the problems I'll have?
« on: September 24, 2008, 06:47:42 pm »
I've tiptoed around this, so I figured I just flat out ask the question that I want to know and that my wife wants me to figure out before buying something.  I would appreciate minimizing the 'Don't mod the cab' because the person I'd be acquiring it from would do much more modification that I ever would.

My plan is to take the cab, replace the monitor with a computer monitor or TV and used the mirror setup.  The blacklight will be used for certain games and then turned off for others so the mirror is fully reflective.  I would use multiple swappable control panels.  One control panel for fighters, one for classics (w/spinner), and one for a trackball.

While I could do all of the above with a Dynamo or 'universal' type cab, the main issue I have is that the cabinet does not look 'cool' or classic in any sense.  Adding art will cost a significant amount of cash (control panel, marquee, bezel, and side art seems to come up to at least $200).

Added benefit being that if I don't mod the cabinet and reverse what I've done, I should be able to resell it - even for a minor profit after cleaning it up and fixing up the nicks and dings.

Thanks to everyone...I need to make a decision on this...

(There is an auction here next month, but I don't think asking the guy who has the Omega Race to hold it for a month is realistic)
