Please help with AMI CD100C Remote Control
« on: August 26, 2008, 08:49:06 am »
I recently replaced my AMI CD100 with a CD100C.  My 100A has an OEM ROWE wireless remote control.  When I removed the remote control components to the 100C, everything works (selection, reject) except the volume control.  The volume stays on at full blast.

I have tried every option, checking wires, direction of plugs,  including swapping the CCC, and amp from the CD100a.  The volume control will work fine when I hook it back to the manual knob, I just can't get it to work with the remote.  I checked the wiring in both service manuals, and they look identical.

Are there compatibility issues between the 100 and 100C when it comes to the AMI/ROWE remote?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I had a problem with the wireless remote with a wall mount LaserStar. Turns out there are TWO wireless remote kits available and they are not compatible with certain models. One kit is for jukes with the usual 250 watt amplifier. The 250 watt is in the CD100, CD100A, CD100B, CD100C, CD100D, CD100E. The CD100F could have either the 250 watt or the 1000 watt amplifier installed depending on the wiring. The other kit is for jukes with the 1000 watt amplifier like some of the wall mount LaserStars.

Also, your Central Control Computer's software (CCC) must be upgraded to at least version 3.0 to take advantage of the wireless remote. Earlier versions don't have the wireless in the software. It's prefered that your CCC have versions 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, or the final version 4.3 to take full advantage of all the features and adjustments available for the wireless remote volume.

Some volume control conflicts can occur if your amplifier has the optional "Amplifier Accessory Board" installed and it's not configured properly.

Remember, the "red" and "black" wires at the volume control terminal strip on the output transformer package that go to the volume control mounted on the back of the jukebox must be disconnected whenever a hardwired remote volume or a wireless remote volume are installed.

Thanks for the reply.  I have a 250 watt power supply in both models.  The CCC is rev 4.2.  For the accessory board, I am assuming you are referring to the background music board.  I don't think I have that installed, but not 100% sure.

Weird thing is that the remote control volume works fine in my cd100, but not in the cd100c.  I did disconnect the rear volume control from the terminal board and put the remote volume control wires in it's place.  If I take the remote out of the cd100c and put back the original rear volume control to the terminal, it works fine.

I even swapped the ccc and amp out of the cd100 and installed it in the cd100c just to see if it would work (it worked in the cd100 so why not).  same problem, volume at full blast.  I must be missing something here. Very frustrating.  Any other ideas?

Thanks

Volume at full blast means the volume control red and black wires are shorted together. No volume means the red and black volume control wires are open. Check your machines wiring harness for a short circuit/pinched wire.

I think I got it, or at least the source of the problem.  The problem is somewhere inside the power supply.  At a last attempt, I switched power supplies between the jukeboxes.  It worked.  Never would have guessed a power supply issue.

There must be something wrong with my CD100c  power supply.  I will have to dissect PS to find the problem source.  But in the meantime, I got the remote volume working.  Thanks.

Check for bad solder joints on the power supply and it's possible it may need to be recapped.

I know this is a reply to an old post but I figured out exactly what was wrong with the volume control problem. Decided to post my findings just in case someone else runs into trouble. If you experience the issue of the Rowe wireless remote not working and the jukebox only plays at full volume, the trouble is with a bad ground on the transformer block assembly. Run a wire from the transformer block assembly chassis and tap into one of the black with white stripe ground wires that plug into the CCC.  That should fix your problem.

That's good to know for anyone who might have that problem in the future. Glad you got yours running. :)

Where can I get a new chip for my ccc??? ( I have 2.1)     I would like to someday get a wireless remote for my cd100a.  ( I also want to be able to display my own message on the read out)  But would it still display in "free play" mode?

Bruce Wentworth should be able to burn & sell you the latest software chip:

http://www.rowejukeboxrepair.com/

Be advised though that the new chip is larger memory size to contain all the new programming features. Very early Central Control Computers need to be modified to be able to use this new chip. If that's the case, you may have to send your Central Control Computer to Bruce to be modified & updated (which includes the new chip).
