My arcade monitor is starting to sometimes lose it picture. When i adjust the pots V/sync Hsync etc it can lose the picture on the screen totally or almost. But when you touch the adjustment screw without turning it,it comes back on. Its also worse when the monitor has just been turned on.
Was thinking maybe the screws are a bit lose, but cant see a way of tightening them
I had'nt used the machine for a while and when i did, i had to do a lot of adjusting with the pots and when i did the was big sparks on the back of the monitor/loud cracking noises. Although its stopped doing this now.

On the back of the monitor itself from the tube to where the cable/cap it fitted to the monitor. I had my hands inside messing with the pots etc  Altought its never done it since.

could be just damp and arcing from under the anode cap,if its coming from the flyback transformer it could be trouble

a bit of advice mate,don't under estimate the shock you will get from that arcing-probably 22000 volts-be careful

Does the anode cap sit on the back of the monitor, look like a big round sucker thing with the cable coming from the middle of. If so thats where the spark was going to/coming from.
Thanks for the advice. I did ---Cleveland steamer--- myself had visions of the sparks jumping out to me and turned it off from the mains ASAP.
The machine has not been stored in a damp room, but had'nt been turned on for 10 months maybe.

the suction cap is known as the anode cap,if a monitor is a little damp that is where it will arc from
you can either wait for the monitor to dry to room temp or you can clean the anode cap and the tube,judging from what you are saying i would choose the first option

Ok just looked at some flyback transformers. Looks to me like it was coming from the cap of the flyback that is conected to the monitor screen.
Its not doing it now, just like to now what the problem was for future ref, so i don't kill myself

Yeh its my bedroom. Its summer time in the the uk so its humid too not to much though.

When i turned on the machine it was ok. It only started sparking when i messed about with the pots,felt like maybe i was pushing it to far. Not sure.

u.k,i bet its peeing down mate
give it another 6 hours then try it again,if its still arcing i can guide you how to clean the anode area without hurting yourself
