Would it be safe to say that Donkey Kong is the most popular arcade machine to collect (or at least restore?) Judging by this forum, it is.

I think right now it is, thanks to The King of Kong movie or whatever it is called. There are much more popular games among the hard core collectors, but I think DK is the most popular right now to the general population that is interested in arcade games.

It is definately a bit lop sided.

I am suprised there are not more Ms Pacs. She is at the top of many peoples wish list.

I wondered if KOK had much to do with this. It did seem that DK prices went up since the movie release, but did sales go up? And how many people actually saw the movie? I doubt it reached millions and millions of people.

In theatres no, but in rentals it has that potential (my local Blockbuster has it in their "new independant" section).

Historically, I sure wouldn't say so... maybe there's a sudden surge but there have always been certain games we see more at one point than others. It's possible the other, more desirable titles have mostly been done already so now we're on to the DK tier. I think this is just a weird blip in supply more than anything. I don't have any Nintendo cabs and don't really want any - no nostalgic value to me.

The Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man restores may not be as popular thanks to Naamco's lawsuit happy lawyers firing missles at anybody who sells a reproduction part of the cabinets. Therefore, it's not as easy to come by NOS parts that can be used for artwork and whatnot. At least that's the impression I've gotten by reading through various forums.

I can understand that. I have the same thing with Galaga. Everyone seems crazy about it but it is just another shooter for me. Galaxian on the other hand..........

I doubt the the KoK movie is making much of a difference, but who knows. I think on this forum it's coincidentally popular right now, or maybe it's just that Nintendo cabinets are plentiful, cheap, and easy to restore. Pac-Man, MsPac, and Galaga are all harder and generally more expensive to restore.

Not here..... I'd pay a nice amount for a(nother) Nintendo cab. The extremely rare e-bay transactions of Nintendo cabs I've seen here in Europe all went for large sums of money.

I meant in the US.

I paid $50 for my DK Junior cabinet, complete with an extra working boardset that I sold. The monitor was dead though.

Indeed. Well if things about my to be build gameroom will proceed as it looks now, I'm going to be saving a lot of money and I may well spend part of that on buying a couple of cabs in the US and let them come over.

My wish-list so far is a DK and a Ms.Pac Man....

Haha, no it's just someone, a "Oranje" supporter, that is a fan of our national soccer team. He looks sad because we lost at the quarterfinals from Russia and thus were out of the tournament....

I do not understand. DK is so frikking hard! I can do some levels in Galaga or Pac-Man. But the DK series (including junior and 3) are incredible painful to play.
I rather eat Peach and get extra vitamins in Rampage (she hangs from a window now and then) than rescue her 10 times or more in DK. The biach keeps running away for almost 30 years now! Maybe Mario must buy some Lockmeister Cuffs and tie her to the kitchen table. Or consider his relation being over. It's unbearable for an Italian guy to have a childish woman like that. Ditch the biach and get some therapy Mario! Pleazzzze.

OK, for everyone who is still not tired of DK restorations......

This is my friend Bruno who converted a Radar Scope cab to a very nice Donkey Kong. Looking at this I got a rush about converting my MB to DK.......I guess one day the feeling will become too strong, but for now I enjoy playing Mario Bros with my son !
