About trackballs...
« on: June 02, 2003, 10:30:37 am »
I was wondering if there are different trackballs for certain types of games. In games like Marble Madness and Centipede you use the ball gently while in games like Atari Football and Armadillo Racing you go mad rolling them as fast as you can. I can imagine an Atari Football trackball being more heavy duty than a Centipede one...

Also, on Armadillo Racing does the ball stick out more than on a Centipede? I imagine so since it would make mad rolling a tad easier while for Rampart a more reclined ball will play nicer.

Another consideration would be sustained spin. In American Horseshoes you need to gauge a spin to throw I think. But having sustained spin for Marble Madness will not work well I think.

What are your experiences?

I'm not sure how much a game is designed for a trackball (or vis versa, except GT), but you might want to check these previous posts: one,  two.    Notice how my happs (same as old atari) TB has the longest spin.  All three TBs I tried have a very high durablity.

*The exception is Golden Tee, which is so popular, the manufacturer said, "we're going to make our control panels thicker," and betson and happs said, "okay, *NEW* Golden Tee Trackball, buy now!!!".  Looks to mostly be changes to the case, but happs just came out with a new optical circuit board that looks to be GT written all over its "advertisements". *shrug*
