Anyone using pinmame vpinball?
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:15:16 am »
I'd like to set up a cabinet like baby pacman(I"d copy mine not trash a real one) with pinmame and have a lcd in place of the playfield and a monitor up top for the scoreboard.
I know this has been done before, I would like to know how anyone has gotten the playfield to display in portrait mode and how to get the back box/scoreboard on the top monitor. It seems to be all top secret over at the vpforums....they all think they're gonna get sued by ultrapin and go to pinball jail :laugh2:

Hi there.  I found this over at the VPfourms.  I am just gonna paste it here, I hope that it helps.

Hi guys.
I will try to explain how I did the trick to put the DMD Display on second monitor and the Backglass too.

Well, first of all, I using the Nvidia display propierties to display the desktop in both monitors in dual mode.
Then, using the Irotate program, I rotated the first display screen (the one using for te table) at 90コ with a 768x1024 res.
The first screen can be achieve more res if yo want (I tried with 1050x1680 and some tables don't work fine 'cause the PC specs)
The second will be in normal position with an 800x600 res.

For display each backglass when I selected a game is an easy way.
I'm using as FE the M.A.L.A FE, and I make a Skin base that has 1024x1568 px.

On the Upper Right corner, I put the section to show the Backglass, and in the left side, it showed the list and image of the table..(or whatever you want).
In MALA config, you tell where the directories are and that's all.

For display the DMD on the second monitor, the only thing I do, is tell on the script of each table the DMD position, adding this code
quote:

SetDisplayPosition X,Y

after the Controller.Run line.

But now, I tried to put the reels of the EM pinball on the second.
BTW, my friend Mofwar are tried to done something with the DMD Gerhard's pinserver, but there's a problem, 'cause the Gerhard tables are protected and manofwar can't study the script (or the way to do the trick to put the reels on the second monitor).
Someone's know if they're some docs about the Gerahard's DMD or Pinserver?ソ?
It would be great if Manofwar can put is hands over it!!!

I'm dying to do this myself after spending hours playing Future Pinball with a rotated "portrait" display. Kiss and Cyclone are a dream on my 22" monitor. But for me, the goal is to play Earthshaker with the full playfield in portrait mode. They seem to be really tight-lipped over there at vpforums about how do to it with Virtual Pinball. I've been skimming many posts on different forums on the subject with no results yet besides that it's going to take a lot of work and reading in between the lines... kinda like hacking a Tivo.

Thanks for the post. I'll study it and start tweaking away. It's written with a lot of acronyms and very little detail like it was jotted down on a cocktail napkin or something and I still don't know what the hell "DMD" means. I think Earthshaker will be impossible however :`(

DMD = Dot Matrix Display.

The screen with your score and or animations.

DOH! Of course! Thanks meany!

I found a bunch of clues after I posted that last question. I have copies of VP 6 and 7 which supposedly work better for what we are trying to do, and a ton of reading to do. I bookmarked them on the home computer before leaving to work. I think the vpforums post was called Benny's VP table work log. Had a ton of great info there.
