1st go at a Mamewah skin!
« on: June 23, 2003, 12:29:40 am »
I just finished my first customized mamewah.

For pics see here (300kb each):

My graphic design skills are quite lacking, but I think it came out ok.

Great looking skin. I like it a lot. I especially like the big green guy in the upper right hand corner. :)

Do you happen to have Hulk by himself at a decent resolution?

Thanks,

BT

Sorry, No.  The hulk picture I used was taken from the small animated sprite version that I got from a link in this forum.  It is only 135 x120 pixels.  You could probably enlarge it and then clean it up, but I don't know how good it would look.

Stuzza,

Cool looking skin!  Is their anyway i can get those image snaps?  I mean the Images for the dedicated systems, such as the NES logo and Sega logos.  As well as the No-Snap images.  I am looking to make my concolse look sharp like the mame artwork too.  Thanks.

I like the "Little Yellow Boxes" look so here's where my MameWah skin is headed...

Not stealing the thread just thought we could keep the Mamewah examples all in one place.

Thanks for the feedback!

Ok guys here ya go.  Here is all the files I made for the skin, plus the Mamewah layout file (1024x768 size).

http://members.lycos.co.uk/stuzza12/skin.htm

The zip includes a Top logo and a no snap logo for the following consoles:
Mame, nes, snes, gameboy, gameboy colour, gameboy advance, nintendo 64, sega gamegear, sega master system, sega genesis plus a pinball logo.

I designed it for 1024x768 size, so you'll have to resize yourselves for other resolutions.

Enjoy!

Looks great Birdtales!  Green borders works quite well with the Hulk too.

Here is an example of a hulk theme using green borders to give you an idea  :)

The skins are really cool, but are you guys doing all of this in just the layout designer or are you using more progz?  If so what do you need to make it look that sharp?  I haven't really toyed with it all that much yet, but plan to.

Stuzza,

That looks 100 times better than mine. I don't suppose you can do it in 1024x768? Hint...hint. Man that looks good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have high quality images to work from if you need them. I'll PM you.

Congrats stuzza! :)

Your skin looks great! :)

Is the front-end so great as the skin?  ;D

And can you change the position of the display windows on that skin?

:) once again! \m/ Cheers!

The skins are just graphics done in whatever graphics app tickles your fancy. ;)
Basically the main skin is just one big grapchic which you then use as a background using the Layout designer that comes with Mamewah.

The front end is better than any skin!!!  I messed around with just about all the other front ends with not much luck, then decided to use mamewah and it worked great first time. - Thanks to Minwah for his excellent effort in producing such a top noch frontend!!

The Window positions can be changed to wherever you want in the Layout Designer, however, the borders in my skin are part of the main background, so would not stay with the moved windows.

OK I've started, a newbie trying to go all out with the knowledge of only playing on these once classics.

I dont't even have a design yet, just a mere sketch, however my head is booming with ideas after first seeing some screenshots of some cabinets.

Money - OH this will cost me!!! But my kid (now 3) will enjoy it like I did many years ago. And that in itself could be a Mastercard Priceless commerical.

So now where do I start, I got my basic design of the cabinet, got the wood (all, but a few already cut by HomeDepot) and preordered parts for my control panel (buttons, 3 joysticks)

Wait.....shouldn't I plan more than 1 week for this?  Probably but I am one of those people that will keep putting it off and never get it done and this time I have decided to get what I need so I can build.

I have been on many sites and reading tons of material in the last 3 days.  Really not visiting this forum at all, but when I brought my Hulk-Cade idea past another (guy that has already built a cabinet, really dont know what to call someone that has done it, failure are the ones that dont finsh , but anyway), person that has already finshed their cabinet, and they said something about someone named BIRDTALES that has already begun that.
With that said I got on the forum and had to see myself.....

Not Happy Now...

Well I've decided to continue with my idea despite the nice work of Birdtales, who I'm pretty sure will get back with me on this.....

Any way to my Question:

Is there a any advice for button positions that any one can give:

I think I have it down to 2 stlyes:

    xxx         Neo Geo
    xxx
   x
or
   x   x        Mortal Kombat
     x
   x   x

Games of choice?  I've always been a fan or mortal kombat but orignal NBA JAM was up their too.

As for older games I will be setting up a dedicated 4-way joystick with 2 dedicated buttons to its right.  (nothing against left handed players but I feel that most left handed people have adapted to right handed video games, at least I think so.  No Hate mail please) Any way 1 Dedicated 4 and 2 8-way joysticks both for arcaders (notice i didnt say for right handers)

So whats the verdit, will it wind up coming down to size on the control panel and how it will fit.

Is their any Mortal Kombat gamers that can play with a (let me know if i'm wrong) neogeo setup.

As Of the writing of this I have seen more pictures of Birdtales HulkAde and now I'm on a friendly mission to do a better job.

Good luck to you, mine is still in work. We'll compare when they are completed. Frosty and Stuzza have put my vision into the Artwork. I'm taking my time making sure the machine lives up to it.
