U360 Long/Short Stick Swap
« on: April 13, 2008, 03:50:49 pm »
So, I just received my new U360's for the new panel and I was going to swap the short sticks for the long ones and also swap in the harder springs.  See the attached photo for my references to the various parts, as I have no idea what the names of many of these parts are.  The photo shows the stack of parts installed on the shaft of the U360, in order top to bottom.  They came from Andy with the short shafts installed and all parts except #7 installed.

I checked the Ultimarc website for instructions and it said to disassemble and "Swap the shafts and/or springs over and re-assemble."  So I swapped out the springs and put everything on the longer shafts.  The spring didn't really compress that way, and the stick was bottoming out on the board.  I figured that part #7 was a spacer to help the spring compress on the longer shafts so I added it in as indicated on the photo.  Now the spring compressed, but the shaft still bottoms out on the board.  I noticed that all the parts go on the "thin" end of the shaft and the "thick" end is the part that sticks out above the housing.  Looking at the two shafts side by side (as in the photo), I also noticed that the "thick" end of the shaft is exactly the same size on both!

Next I figured that the spacer need to go at the top of the stack (above #1) to make the "thick" end of the shaft longer and move the rest of the parts down so that the amount of shaft above the housing would be more.  I did this, and everything seems to be as I would expect it.  So I have a few questions:  Did I assemble this correctly?   I was worried that the swivel (#1) which used to ride against the ridge on the shaft, is now riding on the plastic spacer (#7).  Why wouldn't the longer shaft just be cut so that the "thick" end was longer, so that you didn' t need a spacer and you could just swap the shafts directly?

I think  that # 7 spacer goes above part # 1 and above the mounting plate(I think that's the way you have it now) so it basically makes the top part longer and the bottom the same length

I imagine it's manufactured by sanwa that way for some other joystick variation, just a guess
