Touching up Melamine
« on: May 09, 2003, 06:22:01 am »
Hi, while working with some white melamine-laminated wood that I got at Home Depot, I got some chipping from the cutting that I did.  I wanted to know if there was any good way to touch it up, or if there are any products out their made for this purpose.  Thanks.

When ever I work with melamine I make all my cuts 1/8" larger (because of the chipping) then I run my planner set at 1/16" over it twice. It leaves a perfect edge. I have not yet found a way to stop the edges from chipping, or a way to "repair" them if they do.

Make the side you want facing out face down, and cut with a tool that rips up.  This worked for me.

You need an 80-tooth saw blade designed specifically for cutting melamine.
