LEDs in coin door
SirPeale:
I've been thinking about using LEDs in my coin doors.

Since the rejects are red already, I figured I might use the 11000 mcd ones, as they're far brighter than their white 9000 mcd counterparts.
My question is: would they be too bright?
Unfortunately, although I know how LEDs work, I don't know how to calcutate their brightness. I know that the higher the mcd, the brighter the bulb, but that's about it.
TazMan:
Are you using a Happ Coin Door? Even if you're not, does the coin door you're using have a socket for the bulbs right now? On my cabinet I am using LEDs from thes guys SuperBrightLeds.com. They have the wedge base T3 1/4 and the 4 bulb led is plenty bright enough, plus it has a built-in limiting resistor and you can snag the 12v from your PC power supply

KevSteele:
I used two ultra-bright white LEDs in my coin door lights. They're only a little brighter than the original lights, and much cooler (literally).
Here's a pic:
More pics and details in my "Lazer LED" review:

I picked the Lazer LEDs because they were pre-fitted with a Molex power connector and already had the appropriate resistor wired in (yes, I'm that lazy ;) )

Interesting...that just plugs right into the original socket?
TazMan:
Yep - that is as long as the original socket is T 3 1/4 - which is what Happ uses as default for their coin doors and Illuminated push buttons, which by the way I switched the incandesent bulbs with these leds also. I actually just used the one bulb T 3/14 leds from them for the pushbuttons
