Imagine your favorite car in the world. Now imagine that someone chopped off the front foot of it and built a new front out of wood. A new front that is a foot wider on either side and obviously doesn't match up with the rest of the car.

That is how I feel about classic cabinets with oversized control panels.

Imagine someone gets a junked classic car out of an auto graveyard and rebuilds it into a custom street rod.

If it can be restored as the original classic, that's the way to go. If it can't, build something new. In the end, beauty is in the eye of the cab owner.  ;)

My personal opinion (as one of those dreaded "cab choppers" who wouldn't dare lay a hand on a Robotron or Tempest cab that could be restored...)

Even if it had been mostly intact, what's not to feel good about?

Duh, that's what I'm talking about.  My control panel leaves the original untouched.  All you have to do it bolt it back on.  The one I'm building I don't have to modify the cabinet, it goes AROUND the cabinet to avoid the chop.  Get it, or should I take a picture?
