On the Happ trackballs you have a large green wire with a mounting hoop on the end which is for ground the trackball, i guess for static build up??, Is it ok to ground this wire to the trackball mounting frame??

On my MAME cab I just removed the wire and I don't use it.  Been working fine for over a year.

I just cut the loop off and put them in a spare ground in my opti pac but i guess any ground would do. And yes it is for static build up so i guess its worth doing.

It's my understanding that it's indeed to prevent static buildup, but not for the usual purpose (protecting electronics).  It's to prevent dirt/dust buildup in the assy. to help prevent wear.  Hook it up!

I ran it to the lug which was the common ground for my sticks, buttons and IPAC.
My panel is on it's third iteration now, with the trackball plate countersunk, but I previously had it exposed and the trackball plate would often give you a static shock if the ground was disconnected. Not a big deal, but the common ground made that go away.
