Are these Canadian Mamers available for purchase or only for trade? It must be one or the other since it is advertised in the buy/sell/trade forum.

I will gladly pay upwards of $50 for a Canadian mamer, provided she is a girl 19-25 years old, 100-175 lbs, and not able to beat me at Ms. Pac Man. Would prefer a premium one in NOS condition, but a well used model that is still in nice condition would be acceptable. No conversions please, only looking for original girls.
LMAO...

Port Moody, which is just outside Vancouver.

Proudly Canadian, although endlessly lamenting Canada's lack of arcade product retailers. Damn you cross-border shipping and duty charges, DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!!

At least you've got arcades nearby... over here on the island they're in short supply (I've found a whopping two on the island so far; one in Victoria, one in Campbell River).

We do? While I certainly don't keep on the lookout for arcades these days thanks to Mame, I can't think of any arcades around Vancouver that aren't complete shitholes. The only one even close to me I can think of are the few arcade games at the local Silvercity movie theatre, and they haven't changed since the theatre opened years ago.

Interesting, although it mainly just tells you how things happen in shipping, rather than any amazing loopholes to exploit.

And a US address would work, but your still paying to ship it to that address. And then you have to pick it up and cross the border, and you always run the risk of the border agent finding the goods and fining you.

Sadly there aren't any amazing loopholes.

Paying taxes on your stuff is par for the course (you would pay them anyway if it were a Canadian vendor ... Starburst distributes the majority of the Happ catalog in Canada). In my ordering experience, the duty doesn't compare to the taxes and handling fees (UPS).

Two reasons to have a US address, the lesser of which is to try and skirt paying duty/taxes. More important is for use when vendors won't ship to Canada.

Oh yeah, and you are a lot closer to John's Jukes than anybody else here, which is nice ... or would have been some months ago.

Cheers

Well, my main bitching point right now is acquiring an arcade monitor. After some research, it seems like I have two options. Get one from a distributor here in Canada, but I've contacted them all and they all want at least $1000, for a monitor that goes for $400 in the US. Or order direct from the US, and pay around $250 for shipping at the least, along with duty and tax in the end.

So basically I can take it in the ass, or up the ass.

Yep, for new monitors, you are absolutely right. The last monitor I had shipped from Happ cost me $50 in shipping via Fedex Ground (plus taxes). It was a 19" monitor and I imagine that you are looking bigger.

You might want to post a WTB over on CGCC (although that is mostly Ontario folks) ... 3 29" monitors came up yesterday for free. You just never know.

There is a monitor supplier here that I hadn't heard of previously ... damned if I can remember their name though (but I bet someone on CGCC knows).

In any event, good luck.

You might me thinking of Rick Nieman, of Nieman Displays. Everything I've heard about them sounds great, but they don't yet produce a digital tri-mode monitor. Kind of a sticking point, since I don't want to tweak display settings everytime the resolution changes.

Bingo ... and I talked to him a couple of auctions ago.
