2 projects
« on: May 07, 2007, 09:55:57 am »
This is my first attempts at the following two projects.  The first is a mame cab that was built in an old MK machine.  It's still work in progress but it's coming along.  The other is a touchscreen juke that is work in progress as well. I got the idea from knievel's metal station.  I'll post more pics as I finish up.

Nice work so far. I like the control panel on the first project. Nice and uncluttered. What kind of buttons are those?

It's 9am. I'm calling it a nite.

All the buttons are from dreamarcades.  Yeah I had seen some cp's that had a 100 buttons on them and it would confuse first time users, so i tried to keep it as simple as possible.

Good start, but you seriously need a hole saw...

So here is a bit of an update.  The hole is cut for the touchscreen and both cabinets were painted, although they didn't completely dry first, so there are some fingerprints and rubs from where I couldn't wait to play.  The Griffin volume knob isn't working on the touchscreen just yet, the cord is too short and I think the extension I have for it is faulty  ???.  Will probably repaint this weekend and try and move the touchscreen into the basement.

Why so big on the CP with all that empty space?

Well i had to go as far away from the screen with the trackball as I could because my friends tend to slam their fingers into the screen if it's any closer.  As far as width wise I just didn't want to be clustered in and touching the person next to me while playing fighting games or whatever.  Plus the two buttons on the side are the perfect width for pinball games.

I didn't think Golden Tee was in MAME yet.  Is that recent?

It has been in the last 20 revisions or so Chad.

Here is just a small update.  Got some of the lighting setup for the juke, will probably put another blue cathode near the top.  I also took the touch lcd out of the casing so it could sit more flush to the touch cutout.

Here is one of the designs my brother drew for me.  I will have the words beat box on either sides of the drawing.  My Question is, since I have blue t-molding, blue cathode lights, and a blue light volume knob, should I do the marquee in a blue color and put a white light behind it or should I do a white marquee with a blue light behind it.  I am going for the blue marquee backround color myself but was just curious about other opinions.

I have to say, I do not understand why you are putting a dedicated jukebox in an arcade cabinet. A juke as a supplemental function sure, but you could have built a box for the juke to mount on a wall and drive speakers mounted around the room.  A diy jukebox should at least look like a real jukebox.
Here is one of my favorite juke projects: June's Jukebox

Having said that, if you are happy with it, then that is what matters.

Well, i basically got an extra cab for free, and I felt that there was only a need for one mame cab in the house, plus if people were playing the mame no one would be able to get to the touch juke which would render it useless.  They will also be in different areas as the juke will be in the basement and the mame cab in the garage.  I do have plans in the future for a picture framed touchscreen.  And as you said, as long as I am  :D with it, that's all that matters.  any thoughts on the marquee color?

Well you could do a horizontal cabinet and a vertical cabinet. Or you could slap together an additional generic MAME cab and sell it to fund the other projects. ;D

Hmmm, any suggestions.  Anyone can feel free and modify it anyway they want.  I am very new to illustrator and photoshop.

here is something i came up with real quick, there are a lot of possibilities here and i don't know what you're going for, i would post in the artwork thread, they really helped me a lot with my marquee. PM for the Photoshop file if you want.
