Hantarex MTC-9000 cooling/rebuild...

Hi guys,

My Hantarex MTC-9000 monitor died a week ago, and my Centipede has been down since then   
I don't know what failed so I ordered all the replacement parts I could find.  I'm slowly installing a cap kit, HOT, and flyback on it thanks to the legendary Bob Roberts.  I hope this fixes it, this is my first monitor rebuild!
Questions:
1.  Where is the HOT?  I can't find a manual anywhere.
2.  I read a thread from 2006 about a fan with this model because of heat.  Should I think about installing one?  Mine didn't have one and ran fine without it...for about a month.  The monitor is used and the chassis has had some repair work, so I don't know if it was age or what got it.
3.  Is this a good monitor....I read a webpage that mentioned it was "the cr@ppiest arcade monitor ever made."  I guess this last one doesn't really matter, but...

the horizontal deflection transistor(hot) should be a bu508 found sprung clipped to the flyback heat shield(underneath the big load resistor if memory serves me correct)
i don't believe the fan is needed with yours
its not the crappiest monitor,it just had a lot of silly problems.

Thanks to everyone that read and especially replied to this post.  I replaced the HOT, flyback, & gave it a cap kit.  I plugged it in, and turned it on, and was greeted with puffs of white smoke from the neck yoke.  It really did die and my replacement parts & labor didn't fix it.  Since Hantarex glued the neck yoke on the neck I think it's not repairable.  What a mess, maybe I should try to sell my rebuilt chassis to recoup some of my losses.  I only got two months of play out of it before it burned out, and I paid $100 for it, used. 

Too bad, the picture was excellent.  On the plus side my soldering skills have never been better, and I know a lot more about monitors now.  It's not really a silver lining though.

What does everyone do for replacement monitors?  Buy used and rehab them?  Buy a new Happs Vision Pro and not worry about it?  Buy cheap cabs and steal their monitors?

Smoke from the yoke?  Did you plug it in wrong?

No, I triple checked everything, the caps, the connections, the flyback, the traces on the solder side of the chassis, everything.  So, so sad

I believe the horizontal output transistor needs to be insulated from the metal chassis on this model. Did you put a mica insulator and silicone heat sink grease on it?

thats strange,i've never seen a yoke do that before unless you somehow reversed the yoke plug-sometimes you win,sometimes you lose

Yes, the HOT is insulated and is on the same spot as the previous one.  The insulation looks similar to duct tape, but I'm sure it's a different material.
