Does an original xevious have flashing start buttons?
« on: April 11, 2007, 01:41:32 pm »
I posted this in my pseudo-project thread, but noone has posted. I know several of you have had a xevious somewhere along the line.
Anyways, a Xevious came with lit start buttons, so I assume they flashed with credits. In Mame, Xevious does not have flashing start buttons. What gives?

I can confirm that Xevious has flashing start buttons when there are credits in.

Then is this something worth reporting to the mame devs, or do they not care about flashing start buttons?

I don't see why they would care about flashing start buttons.

I don't see why they would care about flashing start buttons.

technically, that would be a hardware emulation issue.  ;) ;D

Preserving the signal being sent would be... giving you a way to do it isn't.

MAMEDev changed the way start buttons were handled in the latest builds (I think).

Do not report it unless you have downloaded an official version of 0.114 and verified that start buttons work in Asteroid and bzone and not in xevious.

MORE - They care about flashing start buttons, but they are moving them to an external events code, along with backlighting in artwork, rather than just flashing the keyboard LED's.

Atari was the only one to use flashing start buttons.  Right?

The newer versions weren't Atari.

Fredster has a point.  The parent rom Xevious is Namco and likely should not have the flashing start buttons.

Xeviousa, xeviousb, and xeviousc are atari and should have them.

In my current setup, neither version of xevious has flashing. I don't have an updated romset for the new version of mame, and hardly anything from my set, 0.054, works in it.
Can someone else test it for me who has an updated set?

It's officially broken.

As of 107u4, you need to run LEDutil.exe in the background for the keyboard LED's to flash (with any set).

Just ran 0.114 and Asteroid flashes and none of the Xevious sets (didn't test xevios) flash.

Where can I get the LEDutil.exe? I've searched every way I can and can't find it.

LedUtil.exe is included with any of the recent official MAME binaries.

BTW, check your PM.

I'm a tard too.

I just tested with 0.96 to confirm what RayB posted.  The Namco set does not flash, but the Atari ones do (were you using Xevious - which is the namco set and not xevios which is a bootleg).

I tried again with 0.114 and the Atari sets are flashing.  (I think I was not waiting for the game to finish loading when I tested yesterday).

Sorry for the screw-up. :banghead:

UPDATE:  Namco sets are flashing in both 0.96 and 0.114.  I think I'll crawl under a rock for a few days!   :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :hissy:

Just think where you'd be without me saying it was broken!  :laugh2:
