FS: Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Naomi ROM Board)

Just thought I would post this guys auction here.  I got my games from him and thought I would post her auction here.

It's actually in great condition just needs some TLC.  I almost bought it, but it was too big so I got a little smaller showcase cabinet.  I looked at the monitor and the noami and it seems to just need power they where actually in very good shape.  Since im very new I didn't want to start plugging things in and fry it so I told him to just let it go for $300 as is.  I think the monitor alone is worth that much.

If I was in SoCal, I would be all over this.  It just looks like minor damage and possibly plugging something in/together.  I think $300 is a steal.

Mild Rant: Can we PLEASE stop linking to 0-bid eBay auctions as if they are the Rossetta Stone of pricing ? As a general rule, eBay prices are high and those 0-bid, never sell auctions are worse.

Now, as to the original auction, for a water-damaged 33" Dynamo with unknown monitor and non-working NAOMI/MvsC2 ... $300 ain't terrible if it is complete (the NAOMI-JAMMA interface is worth quite a bit). If the NAOMI mobo is blown that isn't a big deal to replace.

For me, the deal-breaker would be degree of water damage and condition of the monitor.

And no, I don't want it ... I've moved one of those monsters into my house and will never do it again.

I wouldn't bother with that one.  Once Particle board gets wet it slowly degrades to it's original chips of wood.  From the looks of the pics the water damage covers most if not all of the wood on the back.

While I agree with the general sentiment, many of classic cabinets that I have seen have had some degree of water damage ... many much worse than this ... and didn't simply crumble to dust.

Of course, the kickplate on my Galaga did break apart in my hands ...

0 bids?  The auction sold for $495 and I offered it to a few members here in so cal for $300.00 before it went on ebay.

Had the members wanted it they could have definetly got it for $300 cleaned up it, plugged it in so it could be sold as working and resold it for a lot more than $300!!

So not sure what you mean about 0 bid auction links or how that's bothering members?   

I'm just trying to help out a few guys in get a good deal, but if you guys prefer I don't bother trying to help out fellow members than I won't post any more ebay links.  Since it wasn't against policy what's the big deal?

The $1,500 that you raved about here was a zero-bid, nobody-bought-it auction. Nobody bought it because the price was outageous!! You used it as a benchmark for the other auction.

THAT is what I was complaining about.

Every so often, someone without the benefit of experience posts about prices and what a great deal somethng is using a ridiculously-priced eBay auction as a reference (example here: your $1500 cabinet). It is misleading and could do harm to someody else, who also doesn't know what a reasonable price is, when they bid the original cabinet up to $700.

As I said, $300 ain't terrible and I explained why.

I also said that I have one of those Dynamo showcases. Mine has a *working* NAOMI GD-ROM running Virtua Tennis 2 (just a *little* bit rarer than MvC2), a beautiful bright monitor and no water damage. I paid about the same as the guy who bought the water-damaged one. Trust me when I say this -- there isn't a ton of money be made fixing that cab up ... unless you find that rare person who not only believes that it is worth $1500, but also has the cash to buy it. Since your $1500 guy didn't, I wouldn't hold my breath.

To sum up: The original aucton that you posted was great ... your hyping it into something it is not with a really bad zero-bid-no-sale eBay example is what I object to.

Tell me that you're kidding ... you DID suggest that, with a little work and art, the cabinet would be worth $1500, right ?

You DID base this belief on seeing an eBay auction with a starting bid of $1500 for a similar cabinet, right ?

You DO realize that nobody bid on that $1500 cabinet, right ?

You DO see that perhaps assessing value based on a price you saw in an eBay auction that never received a single bid is perhaps a silly thing to do and could mislead some newbies who might not yet know better ?

Tell me that all of this is true and that you're not just trying to be the AHOTD.

Sorry for the invalid comparrison, I was only able to find that 1 auction to compare against.  You also have to keep in mind that a lot of guys are very new. To be honest before joining the forum here and finding out the deals from auctions etc I would have paid $1500 for that unit.  I actually paid more than that for a Holosseum game about 15 years ago!  If it were not for the old lady I would have paid 1k for a dedicated MK 3 unit as well.
