Looking for plans and or advice on what cabinet design I should go with to house a 36" crt monitor.

Thanks for any input.

we have a 36" gateway destination monitor on our cabinet at work.  i use the term cabinet loosely though, because we never really finished it.  for something that large, you should definitely go with a showcase style cabinet, where the control panel is on a separate pedistal that can be back away from the monitor.  our's is two separate pieces so we can move the control panel up against the monitor when not in use, then when we want to play, we pull it back so that there is at least a foot between the back of the panel and the monitor.

i dont have any plans, we were kinda just making it up as we go.  i remember seeing someone had dynamo showcase cab plans here somewhere, but they would have to be modified because they were for a smaller monitor i think.

Shouldn't you be asking if anyone has a good plan for a house for a cabinet with a 36" CRT?   ;D

If you are going that big then a showcase cab is probably the way to go - anything else and you won't be able to follow the action standing so close...

LOL.  As someone with a 31" Desti in his cab (which had to be scratch-designed around the monitor: quarterheaven.livejournal.com) I cannot recommend a showcase style cab enough!  ;D

In the end, a showcase style will save you massive amounts of pain and trouble, not to mention it's a really easy style to scale up or down depending on your needs.

Edit: In other words, DON'T try to do what I did.

Something like this, only not light guns and instead a podium type control panel.  SEems to be the way to go.  You could also thusly seperate it to make it more transportable.

Go buy yourself a showcase cab.  This is what I did and then put a 36" SVGA monitor in it.  Here is a picture of what I bought.  The picture is from the KLOV website.

Buy the nicest condition cab you can afford, it will make the conversion to MAME easier.

There are some drawings for a 34" Dynamo cab on Jakobuds site. Maybe you can modify it to fit your needs.

Well said.  I tested a 36" Destination for a while trying to make it work.  I really didn't want a showcase just due to the size.  But you really have to be standing back from a 36" tube to play comfortably.
